Since an inline four fires 1-3-4-2, you plumb 1 and 4 into one side of the housing and 2 and 3 into the other. That way it alternates pulses between the two sides.

so the hot side of the turbo is divided off and the cylinders fire only into that one section of the turbo? and you need two wastegates so you don't over-rev it?
