Re: Something Different
Yeah, the chinese TIGs have issues; they are prone to breakage and aren't the greatest unit to weld with. That being said if you go slow and double pass your welds they do a nice job, several fab guys on this and other forums have gotten some good mileage out of them.
And, is that a four exit IC/plenum you are building? Sweeeeeet. |

Re: Something Different
So I blew off most of the week end try to weld and make things work. One think I will say most of what I am doing is a copy in one way or another of other kits for this sled. So I made some more stacks http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/3509/pict2209hx5.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5412/pict2210hf1.jpg And a thicker plate http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2005/pict2214ib2.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6213/pict2215ov7.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2158/pict2216vl5.jpg |

sort of like the vw of sleds. Back on topic... That intercooler is hot. |

how are you planning on getting the oil back to the engine? is that a dry sump lube on that engine?

Got the intercooler done tonight, pretty happy the way it turned out, my welding has gotten better. I will post some pics latter. |

Re: Something Different
Here are some more pics,
Next I will have to make room for the charge tube, the way it is now the track is hitting it, It is going to take some thinking and some ------ with. Thanks for support http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6213/pict2215ov7.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2559/pict2217md0.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6165/pict2224pz8.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/628/pict2239jl4.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/610/pict2231no2.jpg |
Re: Something Different
in theory, the inlet on that intercooler should have been put on the side with the larger volume. no doubt it will work the way it is but, i'm just saying...
this your first time tigging aluminum? welds look pretty good to me |

Re: Something Different
The used to do an expo and competition on a pond near my house crossing with their sleds. It was always fun to go and watch a few of the poor bastards sink. Theres something about seeing a grown man whine and cry like a bitch that is deeply satisfying. Definitely cool to see it done though
|
Re: Something Different
Water cross is lots of fun, if you sink the sled, you pull the pugs, emty the fuel, and drain it and fill it and go again.
oh, Boyko there is about a foot of snow in ft mac, and it is snowing hard. Didn't look like there was much in Edmonchuck on my way through. |

Re: Something Different
Still no snow so I am not in a hurry yet.
The last time I was in the water I sank....................... 10 feet from the shore. Dried it out pulled it over to start it and hydro locked a cylinder, bent a con rod because of it. Things have been going slow, I do not like the way my charge tube fit in the tunnel and do not really trust it I think it might crack time will tell. So I started on my muffler tonight and got it tacked together, So the sound level is one less thing to worry about …………………...lol. It turned out ok and it is not as heavy as I thought it would be. I utilized a divorced waist gate dump pipe and will port the waist gate on the turbo I am told this help spool up and peek power because the exit out of the turbo is more free flowing. http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/315/pict2245bu7.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/8002/pict2246ji9.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6949/pict2247ax8.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2673/pict2249hx0.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6546/pict2252vw7.jpg |
Re: Something Different
How do you tune that? There's not enough exhaust to fit a wideband. Are you going to slip fit something on there, or just read the plugs?
|

I will try mounting it in the primary dump pipe, might get some lean reading, I hate to stick the sensor before the turbo but I might have to :7. What is up with the K and O anyways? |
Re: Something Different
Before the turbo will overheat the sensor and it won't read correctly.
I'd make a slip fit extension pipe for the wideband. The idle readings might not be perfect due to the tiny gaps around the wastegate port shroud, but once it gets flowing it should work fine. |

Re: Something Different
flanges and pipe are cheap. i would just make another one that is like 2' long for tuning

Re: Something Different
I have been dragging my ass on this, it is getting close.
I tossed a longer track under this thing, went from a 121 with a 1 1/4 lug to a 153, 2 1/4 Here is the pump I am using to return the oil from the turbo The can is for size referance Never drink and weld........................................... in the bath tub Cheers http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/1...ict2306ci7.jpg I added a hunk of tunnel from a Polaris I had laying around http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/6...ict2317uq9.jpg I made up a extra heat exchanger out of some left over parts and looped it into the turbos water jacket.................. my welding still sucks ----, I do not spend enough time fitting and prepping. http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/8...ict2316ug9.jpg I made some tunnel braces out of 1/4 al plate, it took a long time to mill them out and it really sucked sitting in front of a mill for 9 hours with a sunday hangover http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/9...ict2314qz1.jpg http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/9...ict2318wd2.jpg Here is the piggy back controller for the efi it has good size 3d tables in it and will add or subtract fuel and timing with boost referance. It can switch maps on the fly and can studder the engine for a holshot which is good because the turbo is a long ways from the pistons on this thing. http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/3...ict2313op1.jpg http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/9...ict2315dn3.jpg Still lots to do but should be on the seat soon Cheers |
Re: Something Different
good stuff. i was wondering about this the other day
|
Re: Something Different
awesome tunnel brace it looks tits. can't wait for some vids of this thing there is tons of snow now.
|
Re: Something Different
looks good.
we were going to put a trubo on my buddys quad, but instead we opted for a gsxr 1000, with a extended frame and extended rear swing arm. |
Re: Something Different
I know that there is enough snow in the edmonton area to ride now, just barley, but enough for vids none the less O0

Re: Something Different
So I was roughing in the tuneup on the low buck Attack, had it on a track stand and was getting it in to boost. Lots of stuff to watch, it looked like low 12s on the air fuel and around 12 psi boost at 10,000 rpm which all sound pretty and nice. I fired it up the next day and it ran like crap and had a ticking sound from the top end. Pulled the plugs and did a comp test and # 3 was dead, nothing there.
I just got the head off and it dropped a Ex valve but looks like the valve locked in the gide and did not bang things up to much at all. I am missing a stem lock....WTF, the shim and the other stem lock were sitting under the lifter cap, This thing has got 1200 km on it and was wrote off not that being wrote off would cause it to lose a stem lock. I will look again for the missing part but why would this happen? Did Yammy send the motor out a little light? Should I just toss a new valve in it and run it? I will take some measurements from the deck to the piston to see if it is crunched up. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9...ict2325rb7.jpg http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1...ict2323jq9.jpg http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/4...ict2332bz2.jpg http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/6...ict2334oi6.jpg |

There's a really good chance the bottom end is fine, but I'd check it all the same. Also, is it just me or is the valve relief on the piston where the valve dropped a little chipped? Uhm, is there anyway to loosen the valve lash on the exhaust side? I ask because that looks like a solid special-order bucket and not a shim under bucket design, which is common on something that spins to the moon like that. Bottom line the exhaust valves bear the brunt of the thermal load in the engine and the valve lash can go away real quick, you might want to see if a machinist can grind 0.002-0.003" off those suckers so the valve has room to expand into. Keep in mind I could be completely wrong, so inspect your valvetrain closely for signs of wear/scuffing on the base circle, etc. Otherwise, good job. Every new setup has teething problems as shitty as this, and the total package is badass. Fix her and get us vids! |
