catia is a sketcher based cad, where something like unigraphics is solids based, which is slower in my opinion and more difficult for making changes after you have a complete design because of the parent feature relations. it really limits your ability to modify one small area, where catia you can just edit the sketch without having to worry about the effect on the parent features because it will update them as well usually. ug is good for creating drawings after you have a part, where catia is a little behind with their drafting. it isn't as user friendly as ug. most autocad guys prefer ug because of this... for lame *** 2d thinkers only.

i took courses on both catia and ug. if you plan on running something like this on your computer it helps if you have lots of ram, a fast processor and a decent graphics card.

whitey, you using a space mouse? makes life so much easier! space mouse in your left hand, regular mouse in your right and go to town! it makes manipulating your part really quick and easy.

very nice. my only question, and the first thing that popped into my mind, maybe im not picturing it the way that it will work, but will the oil get too hot? Looks like theres no where for it to vent. Seems like you know what your doing, so I imagine you already got this knocked out, but im just curious....

Always wanted to mess around with Catia, never had access to it. Used all other programs though. I was a fan of SolidWorks with the full Cosmo Package. Was a llittle dissappointed when I had to go to using Inventor at my new job.

Oil pumps need vents Oil temps are not going to be a problem. It will dissapate enough heat in the swingarm tank and if it doesn't than I'll just add an inline small cooler. However I really doubt that it would be necessary.

lol, you got systems mixed up. You can't vent a pump. There's two sides of a pump, a pressure and a vaccum. If you vent the vaccum you'll suck in air or just leak oil like a bitch and if you vent the pressure side than you won't make any pressure, it would be an oil leak.


Your crankcase vent is there to vent pressure from the blowby past the rings. This is a boosted 2-stroke, I'm o-ringing my crankcase not venting it. (but thats a separate topic) This oiling system is a completely segregated system. from the engine.

cool project.

the owner of DYNOmite Dynamometers was the first person to publically turbocharge a 2stroke and offer a kit. His application was outboard boat motors but the concepts are the same.

i was looking at the turbo's he used and noticed they all had Mack truck size exhaust sides whoich he explained was an absolute must becasue of heat. so when choosing the turbo your going to use, you must make sure the exhaust wheel and housing is 2-3times bigger than you calculate it to be. the result of not having a big enough hot side will be a big blob of metal.
