Yes very heavy duty solid engine mounts ;)
Car only gets worked on after 7pm on week days and all day on weekends
This is 2 weeks worth of work, engine bay shave is almost done and wire tuck almost done, roll cage should be done this coming monday so car will be dropped off to get painted candy apple red (under hood, in car, in trunk, outside, a complete new paint job =))

Engine was moved 1 3/8" further foward in the engine bay to get the trans to fit in the tunnel without modification to the actual frame (tunnel met the 5 lb sledge hammer ;))

Fuel cell is in the works later next weekend, more pics coming this sunday
Cage is 1 5/8" .083 4130 chromoly all tigged and made by me (just got a nice bender)

Not often you see an s2k with pedals like these ;) (old man making me custom covers soon that will match factory but have bigger brake pedal to look factory)

Here is fitment picture with seat in the car, the seat is all the way back in this picture, fits like a glove

When car gets running again it will be pushing somewhere between 800-900whp
Car weights 2700 lbs with me in it (when I decide to go pro class I will do tube chassis and make it weight 1900 with me in it ;))
Tranny of choice is chevy Th400 full trans brake, manual valve body, b&m ratchet reverse patter shifter, line lock, etc

When you say "race car" what exact does that mean? Drag, road race, drift, auto-x,...? I'm assuming a drag since you moved the engine further ahead and that's the last thing you'd want in any of the other choices.

sgoertz 09-07-2006 09:56 AM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

Yes it is a full drag car now
also the 3 speed auto tranny wouldnt exactly be a good choice for any other type of racing ;)

Looks bad ass already. What are your plans for the rear end?I was under the impression it wont hold mega hp.

Looks good. I would double check the angle on the down bars. I know SCCA and IMSA have a 30 degree rule. I don't know anything NRHA or IRHA. Other then that it looks like you have been putting in the time.

Randy

They are both exactly 30 degrees and yes 30 degress is max allowed for nhra

How'd you mate a turbo 400 to the S2K motor?

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

have you ever heard of an adapter plate?

nitrofish420 09-07-2006 05:59 PM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

Yes, I've heard of adapter plates, but was it custom made or is it an off the shelf item? And how did you adapt a starter? Obviously a custom driveshaft is in order, but what rearend are you using?

sgoertz 09-07-2006 07:39 PM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

Off the shelf you can get them at walmart ;)

Man, You had quite the street car in the S2k. I'm not sure if I could have brought myself to chop it up in that way, but I want to see that sucker FLY!!!!!!

Good, clean, and thorough work. The least I've come to expect from you!!!!

Had to make a pitstop by A-1 (place panting my car) they said it will take a lil longer than this weekend (monday-wednesday next week b4 it is ready) but this is fine because I have a customers car in the way up here at my shop and would have no place to store my car in the mean time...

So here are a couple of update pics for those who are interested ;)

I want to see the suspension work in the rear end to get that 300zx rear end mated to the chassis!!!

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

Picking the car up very soon from the paint shop now
He had a couple hot jobs come in and so did I so I just let him postpone it for a few weeks but am supposed to get it friday
For the rear end to fit I am ditching the factory fuel tank and doing a fuel cell (the new rear end is 3" taller and 3" wider also weighs 75 lbs more lol)

Lots of cool stuff coming very soon

what rearend you go with?

sgoertz 10-24-2006 08:49 AM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

R230 Rear end (90-96 tt 300 zx rear end)
It has a 9.05" ring gear in it (supposently as strong as ford 9 " )
3.69 Final drive in it and viscous lsd

I see this as the only down fall to the rear end. I don't know about the 300zx, But every other Viscous LSD I've ever dealt with or know of don't hold too much power as the Viscous Fluids break down.

scottsi 10-24-2006 03:10 PM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

they've put alot of power through that lsd, but viscous would nt be what i would use, they tend to act like an open diff at times with one wheel spinning more than the other, and btw you can get a 4.10 ring and pinion set for taht lsd, search twinturbo.net, i forgot the compnay that makes them, please excuse my retarded one handed typing

sgoertz 10-24-2006 09:25 PM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

So yah Duy's car (local guy) ran a 8.6 with a 1.39 60foot on drag radials with the 240sx rear end (also a viscus) I am sure if it works just fine there it will work more than fine in mine....

BTW if I ever do run into problems I will get a clutch type but till then I see no reason to

As to the 3.6 gearign being bad I am on a auto tranny and a 28" tall tire revving to 9 k
with 800 whp the car should be trapping 155 mph or so, this gearing will be just about perfect...

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

are you making a intake manifold/intercooler in one? my intercooler on the racecar is fairly thin wall as well but it hasnt been a problem, im sure now that i said that it will explode just sitting in the car with my luck :S

sgoertz 11-07-2006 08:36 PM

Re: Official JG-Fab.com s2k Race car build post updated weekly

I am doing both an intake manifold and intercooler in the large flat sections (sides) I am going to put 2 1/2" rods welded in to keep it from blowing apart (50 psi boost on big s471 turbo or 35-40 psi on gt47r)
