Default how to weld internal w/g port

how would you guys suggest welding up an internal w/g port in a turbine? are turbines made out of a high nickel cast iron? would you suggest stick welding with a nickel rod? or maybe knocking off the flux and use it as filler with a tig? would i need to preheat the turbine?

thanks ahead.

first, take the exhaust housing off the turbo. then... preheat it. it is most likely cast iron. steel rods will work fine.

98.3% iron + 1.7% carbon = steel

IMO higher nickel content is preferred. Preheating it will definetly give you the best results. I usually cool cast iron slowly, put it in some sand or something to cool.

I know its not right but I have welded a bunch of them and just blast them with the tig and use mild steel rod. Never had an issue.

i would just hate a crack there. that would be the worst place for a crack on any turbo setup. a leak there and you lost quite a bit of performance, all right ill heat it up with a torch and tig it with mild and throw it in some sand. thanks guys.
