Default has anyone used a mig on SS

im thinking about going ahead and buying a mig welder for my turbo project so i dont have to rely on other people anymore.
migs are way more affordable than tigs. has anyone done stainless steel with a mig. i assume it should work fine.
please post up experience with this. either good or bad.

you need wire for ss and shilding gas for ss otherwise it will rust where you weld thus being a shitay job but it will work.

get some stainless wire and trimix gas, co2 will work but trimix will work alot better.

trimix is just a different type of gas. or 3 types of gas.

it works alright, depends alot on the type of gas. tri mix is a bit easier to work with but straight argon is supposed to be less prone to reducing the SS ability to fight corrosion. id rather have a more solid weld and like .5% faster rust rate.

Stainless however never welded anywere near as easy for me as mild steel, that stuff just welds so nice with a mig. personally id say your better off being able to rely on yourself, get the welder. at least you can start the learning process and get some experiance.

ok so a friend of mine says that mig welders just dont penetrate as well.
and the welds wont last as long. as a tig welder will give you better quality
longer lasting welds. tigs are just so expensive. harder too, although coming
from oxy i think i would have a little heads up on it.

^^ this man speaks the truth. Your friend is full of ----. I've welded a good amount of stainless with a GMAW machine, and the right gas makes the difference. I can get plenty of penetration with a MM350P.
