But.... it didn't....

that's the thing about rotary.... it will rev up to what you make it, or it will die trying..... a boinger will start to squeeeeel like a pig if the nut holding the steering wheel has no clue... Rotary engines are a helova lot more reliable than anything else out there....and that has been proven by Aviation, over and over and over and over..... It's the maturity of the owner, that almost always will be the weakest link.
