Re: custom Log mani i'm building
hey i got a question for, im gunna be making my log maifold soon but im not sure of how to do it, do you weld the pipes to the engine flange first then weld the pipes together, or do you tack the pipes together then weld the pipes and then weld the whole piece to the engine flange.

you'll probably have to cut some of the pieces to make them all fit on the head flange, once you get them all so they'll fit on the flange perfect, tack them all together (not to the head flange) and make sure everything lines up on the head flange.. then weld the fittings together.. recheck fittment on the flange.. do any mods u might need. then weld the fitting log to the head flange.
when you weld the fitting log to the head flange, its wise to bolt the flange to a flat surface, or get a piece of 1" thick steel and bolt the flange to that.. it will help keep the flange from warping when you're welding on it.
this is how i did it anyway.. someone else who's done them might do it different.
i've been welding for 3 quarters now.. this is my 4th quarter this spring quarter. the first quarter they usually teach you the safety stuff, plus lean how to weld oxy acetelene, then you stick weld, then mig weld, then tig weld, i've stick welded before so i skipped that, i took the course just to learn.. not for any requirements for a degree.. so i was able to choose what i was doing.
believe it or not.. Oxy Acetelene really prepares you for tig welding.. learning to control the puddle and use filler rod.
i went from oxy ace to tig.. skipped stick and mig.
it all depends on your instructor.

eventually there will be welds where u see couplers, right now, i dont have time to weld everything. when i get a lil more time, i'll pull sections off and weld them.
here's some updates .. car is running.. but i'm not boostin yet.. left the BOV off until i get my fuel pump installed ... gotta drop the damn fuel tank ..
then i'll install the 560cc injectors and resistors then i'll install bov and start tuning
i think friday i'll get the fuel tank in.. or at least started.. will be done by sunday
and no the oil return line ISNT kinked..
