cheap head studs

Ok, I spent the day trying to find a new source for head studs because I think 110 usd is to mutch for 9 ------- studs.
what I found so far is that im looking at a metric B7(high strength/high temp) threaded rod.
It will come in 1m or like 3ft lengths.
The size is M12 by 1.5pitch (same as the head studs in my D16A1

Im hoping that it should be pretty cheap and then we can just cut the rods to lengh and have inexspencive head studs. So these will work with any d series I guess.

He is sourcing the rods today is gonna give me a call tommorow.

He also said that if for some reason they cant find this rod that they also manufacture custome rods as requested. In which case I might be looking for a group buy to drop the cost.

anyone else interested?

d-series head studs are only like $90. If you cant afford that use your stock head bolts ur threaded rod Idea isnt going to work :S

wont work?
do u have any reasone?

I doubt arp makes them in house which means that they have to get them from somewhere and brafasco is a huge fastner company and if it can cut the price of head studs in half y not

e is saposed to call me at the shop tommorow and let me know. The good thing about this is that the DOHC ZC and the D16A1 have that 1 longer bolt in the middle that wouldnt be a problem. We just cut them to fit our neads.

your using studs anyways man, they dont need to bottom out to get there required torque, all bolts will be able to stay one equal size

Whether or not arp is justified in asking as much as they do for there studs I dont know

well you have to assume that ARP is not taking a bath at $90 a set. So they are obviously cheaper, but can you get them at that price. ARP is buying them in mass.

Get some specs on tensile strength, elongation, hardness etc and compare to the ARP.That actually doesnt sound like a bad idea I just think your not going to be alot cheaper by the time you add the material, cutting etc.But do a write up anyways because home made head studs would def be original :y

what you need to do is walk around the junkyards and see if you can find a car that uses te same size stud but has a lot more of them like a v6 or v8. As ARP hoses us 4cyl people just like the rod and piston people do. Then just buy the set for the v6/8 that has twice as many as you need.
