Chainsaw engine / Projects *PICS ADDED*

I wanna put a chainsaw engine on a bicycle. What kinda RPM's these things run at? I want to work it out so it has about a 20mph cruise and a max of say 35mph spurts of raw powar.

I don't weight much and it's a 40cc (i think) engine, so hopefully that will be possible.

Re: Chainsaw engine. Working RPM?

get me the model/size of the saw and I'll get the specs from my small engine mech. ;)

kick ass. I'm pretty sure its a 40cc Poulan but it could be one of the smaller engines. I'll check it out after work though to be sure it's not the 33 or 34cc.

Thanks :)

I have a Stihl, and I think it runs at about 13,500rpm.

Damnit ---- me I forgot to get that info. I'm sorry, I'll get it for real tonite :-[

Took the saw apart, got the bitch of a clutch off. Realized the headstuds also act as motor mounts...goddamn cheap manufacturing bastards!. I'm gonna have to do some HMT'ery to get this beast to make it work so instead of doing a total hack-job as I had first intended, giving the amount of work to make this work correctly, I might have to spend a little time with it and do it semi-right. That was a long sentence.

Anywho, it should be sweet. Hopefully I'll have it done in a month or so.

HOW BADASS WOULD THIS BE?

Build a lawnmower. All you need to do to make them fast is take the blades off, remove the pulleys, put a big pulley on the motor and a small on on the transaxle (stock is the reverse) then build a tension clutch. After a few days work you have a 35mph lawnmower. That's just to get it going though, you'll soon want to redo the steering, and lower the front down and widen it out, but it's a work in progress. Go find an old 80's Murray, Dynamark, Deere, etc with a Peerless transaxle and an engine 11hp or larger. Shouldn't be more than $100 plus $80 for pulleys and a belt
