95% of them can't. Aluminum requires AC Arc. Some say they can do aluminum by Scratch Starting. I've seen it done, but don't realy understand the process. Anyone want to enlighten me?

I recently bought a Thermal Arc 185TSW, darn good buy for an ac/dc tig machine. One of the best things I have bought lately. I have not welding much aluminum with it yet as I have been to busy using it for other things. But the few times I have it has worked very well.
Here is a practice weld I did yesterday.

i say there isn't much point in getting a tig if you skimp out on the ac. otherwise, you could just get by with a mig. i bought a miller 180sd in the spring and glad i spent the extra to be able to do aluminum. why keep buying stuff? just get it once.
