I wouldnt say that, Welding is an ART. However i am 100% with Dave and those who want to weld as a hobby or try to be a true DIY'er. You can get great quality welds out of non name brand machines or lower model name brand stuff. The more expensive name brand stuff has some cool features, allows for a higher duty cycle and a few other things for the people who are doing production work. I personally bought a miller tig for lsd motorsports because its being used rigorously and i dont want to worry about 5 years down the road. I think thats the main comparison, the life of the machine and its parts as opposed to the quality of the bead it can lay. Especially for charge piping and exhaust pipes. Now if your talking high quality titanium metal etc, you might want to use a miller or lincoln which has features to make this process easier.
Thats just my .02$

Josh, you make a tough argument against someone who supposedly "stepped on everyone in the fab forum", yet a guy want's to make a mild log manifold and you respond with:

So your saying that $2200 TIG welder is going to produce better welds than a $200 flux machine? Holy ---- Captain Obvious!

BD, this can be your first locked thread. I'm leaving it open for some more Hotrex ownage from Steve.

How did he insult everyone? You'd only need to feel "insulted" if you knew deep in your heart that your manifolds did indeed suck and your welds were inferior. Or you sold a few which indeed "sucked" and came back at the buyer with "it's not my manifold, it's your install" or "who cares if it's ugly, it works right?"

Personnally, I'm not trying to win a beauty contest, but if I were I'd rather go with a custom setup from what some would call a "pretentious person" based solely on the fact that his welds were "pretty".

So long as the product stands the test of time, heat, boost as well, so be it.

Granted welding IS an art, and IS mostly the welder, but I'm sure you'd spooge Hotrex manjuice all over a $3,000 welder if you had access to it and had the chance.

Regardless, beauty is only skin deep, or cast deep, or stainless deep and I could give a ---- how pretty it looks if the welds don't hold because most of the time and effort was spent on making it look "pretty".

Wait, so I have to keep the ownage to this thread? What about the rest of the site?

lol. Here's some more ownage. Hotrex got mad at me today and PM'd me this:

maybe i should squeal to the bbb about your under the table business,

you guys wanna ---- around, i ll ---- around, dont tempt me steve.
So I pm'd him the MN state secretary's link to type in Stealthmode Performance, and he owned himself. lol
Now here's the hotrex twist (aka hypocrocy) - I wonder if ccfab.com is registered with the CT state secretary. hahahah

If I didn't have hotrex for entertainment, I'd be so bored I'd rip my fingernails off with the needlenose.

if i wanted a more expensive unit, id own one, i was using a syncrowave 300 for awhile and a precision tig 185 for a while.

i bough tthe smiley, because for the price and the added plasma feature, it will do just fine.

as far as longevity, it will be relegated to plasma only duty within the year.

seeing as myself and only a few others have posted pics of manifolds, yeah i took a bit of offense to his comments. theres alot of hard work into my ---- for some asshat to come by and call it "pitiful"

and no, ive never sent anyone anything i wouldnt run myself. thick skin my ***, theres a difference between constructive criticism like some have posted and this guys blatantly rude post.

you can suck the comtamination off my tungsten dickbeater,
heres another "pitiful smiley tools mani"
