YA, man you gonna have problems learning on exhaust piping, start with 1/4" steel you won't burn though that unless you got a mean machine. Once you get a piece of thick steel, just put the setting somewhere in the middle, start welding and once you see the puddle do little ZZZZ's or CCCCC's and try and keep the puddle the same size and the ZZZZ's consistant(same size and same distance apart) if it spaltters turn the wire speed down if it is hard to get the puddle to stay the same size slow down or turn the voltage up.
And if you can get a gas mig I would recomend it, alot cleaner welds and less splatter.

Antisplatter works pretty good but damn that ---- kicks out some mad smokage and smell nasty. Try spraying it down with wd40 and that kinda works like a antisplatter and gives you a cool look to what your welding. lol. It's just mastering the controls on what to adjust it to. I usually start out with it spooling faster and the voltage turned down so I don't burn a hole right away and then turn it up. I only have like a high and low on my HF so it's just getting the speed setting right. You want it to sound like eggs frying.

Im not a great welder but the thing I think a lot of people forget is - welding is aobut WATCHING what you are doing. Keep a sharp eye on the work area and what's happening with the pool of molten metal.
