Default Re: FREE Chip Kit for VAFC Install Instructions - Definitive Guide

this a pretty overall way to do it!
Things needed:

-VAFC
-Solder
-Soldering gun
-Electrical tape
- 2 - 2amp diodes

Step 1
locate ecu.
Locate the top plug and remove it from the ecu.

Step 2
Find the green wire that is on the vafc. You want to solder the green wire into the blue wire with gray dots on it. When done use tape and plug the harness back in.

Step 3 a)
Locate the 2nd plug, should be in the middle. Find the purple and pink wires from the vafc, now locate the green with yellow strip on it. You want to cut this wire in half, (Cut far from the ecu to give yourself some room) Now get one diode and shorten the legs a bit where about 1 inch is left on it.

Step 3 b)
Take the diode with the gray end and solder that to the wire that you just cut that is going towards the car away from ecu. (DON'T LEAVE THE SOLDER ON DIODE TOO LONG BECAUSE IT WILL MELT THE DIODE) When done tape up the wire and diode.

Step 3 c)
Take the purple wire and solder this to the other end of the diode that has nothing on it. (Be sure again not to leave the soldering gun on it too long) Now tape up the diode and the purple wire.

Step 3 d)
Take the other diode with the gray mark pointing towards the ecu and solder that end to the wire that is coming from the ecu that you just cut. After that take the pink wire and solder that to the other end of the diode. When done tape up the diode and the wires making sure nothing is exposed.

Step 4
Now locate the blue wire on the vafc, and locate the blue wire with a black strip on it harness of the ecu. Cut this wire in half and solder the vafc blue wire to the ecu. Leave the other end unused. Use tape to tape up the wires. And when done plug the harness back in.

These last steps are gonna be difficult because the wires are kinda hard to get to.

Step 5
Locate the 3rd plug which is at the very bottom. Find the gray wire from the vafc, now locate the red wire with a black strip on the ecu harness. You want to solder the gray wire onto the red with black stirp. Use tape to tape up the work.

Step 6
Locate the yellow and white wires on the vafc, now locate the white with a green strip coming from ecu harness. Cut that wire in half leaving yourself some room to work with the wires. Now solder the yellow wire to the end that goes towards the ecu. The white wire goes towards the car. Solder both wires and use tape to cover up work.

Step 7 - This one is kinda tricky so BE CAREFUL!
There are going to be two wires on the harness a black with 2 gray dots and a solid black wire. You want to find the black solid wire. After that get the brown and black wires that are coming from the vafc, and solder these two wires onto the black wire coming from the ecu. Make sure that the brown wire is closer to the ecu than the black wire. I put my brown right in front of the black. Solder them onto the black solid wire. DO NOT TWIST THESE TWO TOGETHER!After that use tape and tape up your work.

Step 8
Locate the red and orange wires from the vafc. Now find the yellow with a black strip and gray dots on it. You want to solder the orange wire closer to the ecu than the red wire. DO NOT TWIST THESE TOGETHER!!! When done soldering cover up with tape.

And finally plug in the last harness to the ecu. Check all connections to make sure that everything is soldered on tightly and neatly. That should cover all the wires and everything that needs to be done. That is the best that i can tell everyone to do. YOU NEED TO SOLDER EVERYTHINGYOU CANNNOOOOTT CRIMP OR TAP. Because if you do a good signal will not go through

Installing the A'pexi Super-AFC

wires:

1. Connect the Black wire to the ground wire (black wire) under the passenger side seat.

2. Next connect the Brown wire 3-5 inches closer to the ECU, towards the front of the car, than the black wire. This is on the same ground wire as the black wire.

3. These should be the only wires running under the seat.

4. The gray wire should connect to the Red w/ Black Stripe wire. This is the Throttle Sensor wire. The Red w/ Black Stripe Wire is located on the ECU on the very bottom connector, the gray/black one.

5. Next the RPM sensor wire, this wire is located on the top connector of the ECU, the RPM sensor wire is the dark blue wire, the wires included with the RPM sensor are attached like this: WWW-WB-WWW. Where the W=other wire and the B=RPM meter wire. You will connect the green wire to this wire.

6. Next are the MAP sensor wires, you will have to cut this wire. This is the wire that the yellow and white wires from the S-AFC will connect to. The Green w/ Red Stripe wire (MAP SENSOR wire) is located on the ECU on the bottom connector. The white wire runs directly to the Map sensor, out from the ECU, and the Yellow wire will connect to the Map Sensor wire going to the ECU.

7. Visual = ECU------GwRS---YW---SAFC----WW---GwRS------Map Sensor.

8. Now to power the A'pexi S-AFC. Run the Orange wire from the S-AFC to the Yellow w/ Black Stripe wire on the BOTTOM of the gray connector. There are 2 Yellow w/ Black Stripe wires make sure you connect it to the bottom one. Now the Red wire from the S-AFC will connect to the Yellow w/ Black Stripe wire above the Orange wire. Power is all set.

This is what I have done to install my S-AFC, (Yes, it works fine). Special thanks to Boosted for some info. I have tried to make this as simple as possible, if you have any ?'s PM me and I will try my best. You cannot and will not hold me accountable for any mechanical problems encountered with this DIY, it is SOLEY up to you on installing this product. Mine is installed and is working fine, except the fact that I have yet to go to a DYNO, but I will as soon as I get some more cash flow. enjoy people!!!!

http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=418159 go here for wiring diagrams andhttp://www.apexi-usa.com/support_wiring.asp and here for more infohttp://www.apexi-usa.com/support_installation.asp

i used all this and a haynes manual for the wiring diagram of the gsr and did it right the first time.

I could really use a ecu chip.

Thanks Clive H.

I currently have the vafc2 and boy was i dissapointed with apexi's instgructions. Pretty much it's just a book that tells you how to get to each setting, but not what the settings are for and what they do. It's pretty much as if they expect you to know all this when you buy the unit. Honestly i can say now that after using the unit and experimenting with it i've figured most of the settings out, but there are still a few that i can't figure out. This being said, it was actually easier for me to comprehend uberdata and turboedit and the way they work. Xenocron...I'll be contacting you over the winter some time when my car's in the garage about having you chip my ecu...not that I don't know how to, just that I'm feelin' kinda lazy That and the fact that my vafc2 will only reliably get me to 10psi. I'm only up to 8psi now and once and a while it pops the cel anyway. Take it from my experience...not only is it better and cheaper to chip the ecu, but it's also alot easier to learn to use.
