There are better, less expensive options already listed in this forum. However, this information still has a valid use. If you are reading this, you either 1) need a datalogging cable 15 minutes ago, 2) want to use an old cable you already have laying around, or 3) you are a VTEC-loving Ignorant Stunna.

It also might be a good idea to poke around a few of the pinouts - some are not very well laid out, or lack an image of the connector which makes orientation very difficult. You will find that the more fluent phones have the best support, which oddly enough are the cables easiest to find in a pinch.

Step 1: Go to www.pinouts.ru. There are other sites that provide cell phone connector pinouts, this is just one of them. Find their selection of cellphone pinouts: http://www.pinouts.ru/pin_CellularPhones.shtml

Step 2: Print the ------- page out. Otherwise you can end up doing the VTEC-loving Ignorant Stunna Dance trying to find a pinout among the 1,001 spam sites that googling anything cellphone results in... Joey has already made this mistake for you. Learn from Joey's mistake. Do not be a VTEC-loving Ignorant Stunna.

Step 3: Go to electronics boutique/Radio Slack/cell phone outlet of your choice. Purchase Brand X cable of your choice. Hopefully it is a cable for phone listed in the printout I told you to make. On occaision, Joey has purchased the wrong cable when messed up on cough syrup. These things happen.

Step 4: Go back to home/shop/cardboard box you live in/etc. Remove the shroud/housing of the cellphone bale so you can see the wires going into/out of the connector. Refer to the pinout diagram at pinouts.ru or wtf ever site you are using. When dealing with a USB cable, you only need to refer to Tx, Rx, and ground. If DB9 serial cable; Tx, Rx, ground, and power.

For the sake of this exercise, Joey will pretend he has an LG something or other phone cable.

Like so: (open this link in another window) http://www.pinouts.ru/data/pin_lg_500.shtml

You will find a picture of the connector, and a pinout chart with Tx, Rx, GND, and (god help you) power listed.

Amazing!

Wait, uhm, how do we connect this hot shizzle to the ECU? Joey can't remember, either. Cough syrup, whee! What Joey does remember is Nick Mailloux's ECUControl.com site... the very bottom of the How to Mod my ECU page has this handy dandy link: http://www.ecucontrol.com/seria_ladapter.htm

Step five: Now paypal Blake Warner Five Dolla!

If you can't figure it out from here, I can't help you.

Pneumonia sucks.

well it works now, i am guessing that by the time you tried it it was back up.

whatever, details details...

so basically as long as i find something with a ttl convertor built into the cable, im good to go.

im off to fry's.

Why does your wideband NEED the serial port?

With Pro you log the wideband through your datalogging so...your wideband shouldnt need to be hooked up to your laptop at all while logging with Crome Pro.

Serial seems like the best option to me...

I want to be able to use the zeitronix logger at the same time. for one to be able to adjust any offset if the readings don't match, and for another it has a better sampling rate from what I've heard...tho it is gonna be useless for me for the most part.

anyways, i picked up a motorola data cable, it has the TTL, and I have the pinout chart. I'm working on doing this now.

Question, I think I am reading it correctly, but this says no need for power signal with a usb cable correct? just tx, rx, and gnd?

For most of them aka 99%, yes, the TTL converter chip draws the power it needs from the USB side of things.

I picked one up, same brand as the nokia but for a motorola, found all the pinouts and soldered it up, but I can't get it to work.

Probably settings stuff, I didnt play with it much today (hangover) but every time i would test the connection i would get a (bad response, check settingss) message.

1) have you cut the homogay J12 jumper on the ECU?

2) have you fiddled port settings so they resemble reality?

3) now you know why I said moates.net, fuckstick. i've had perfectly good DIY cables go belly up for no good reason... suspect tiawanese mass produced bullshit dies a lot... but moates.net is forever.
