Tuning with BRE...questions
Hey guys, I've been doing quite a bit of research about BRE here and at pgmfi.org. I'm almost ready to get started on a turbo setup for my car and I've decided to use BRE to tune it. I have a few questions though.
First, as far as chipping a PR3 or PW0 ECU, how is it any different than say a PM6 for turboedit?
Second I am planning on purchasing a chipping kit from xenocron's website, which chip should I go with - the Amtel chip or the SST chip? I would like to be able to use an Ostrich to tune but I may not be able to afford it. Which chip would I be able to use with and without an Ostrich? The website is a little unclear to me as far as which chips you can use with what burner and ostrich goes. Says the Ostrich works with 2732A, 27C128, 27C256, 27C512 but the burn 1 only works with AT29C256, 27SF512, and AM29F040. Does that mean I'd have to get a different burner if I wanted to use Ostrich in the long run?
How hard would it be to tune without the Ostrich?
Sorry for all the questions but these are the ones I couldn't find answers for by searching.

Re: Tuning with BRE...questions
The burn1 can only burn chips, and the Ostrich can only emulate, not burn.
So, no matter what you need a burn1 to burn any permanent chips. The Ostrich is just a SUPER convenient thing to have. The Ostrich does not interface or have anything to do with the chips themselves; it just takes the place of a chip in the socket and emulates one.
As far as the diff. between the 27sf and 29c chips, I have used both, and I really liked getting the 27sf because they were much less expensive. For some reason though, I always seem to have the most random problems with the 27sf chips, Im almost a 100% sure its due to me not paying attention to small details, or my fingers being to fat for the keyboard. I never have problems with 29c's. They're my favorites.

tuning without the ostrich using BRE is quite simple. You can use the map trace to put your AFR from a wideband into the corresponding cells, then you can use the log analyzer to tell you where you need to adjust etc. All in all its a good piece of kit

You can use them on most OBDO motors and if you was building a high revving D series you might wanna use it on that seeing as it has better resolution all the way up the rev range.
