!!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Hey, so i know this guy that bought a turbo'd civic not really knowing that much, but jsut wanted something that had a turbo. He blew his engine ( i believe as a result from the Turbonetics delta ex. WG. that i've heard has had a record for boost creep ). Anyways. I told him i'd give him $300 for everything turbo on his car.. He agreed. I went over last nite n this is what i removed.

-t3/t4 .57 a/r

-Pretty large FMIC

-Chargepiping and all connecters for the FMIC

-Blitz Bov (REaL)

-D series Mani.

-downpipe

-steel braided oil lines.

-FMU ( Yes.. an FMU you. dont hate on the FMU. =] )

-check valves. LOL

-Turbonetics External WG (7psi)

-Autometer Boost and A/f Gauges and Bezel (for civic)

Not bad for 300 bucks i guess.. Turbo has no shaft play and spins very well with the oil that remains. Anyways. To get to the point, I only spent this much $ on all that stuff so i kinda wanna keep it budgeted. AFC hack n injectors would, IMO be a waste for the 7 PSI and I KNOW the FMU would be fine. But i was wondering if anyone know's of someone who chips TOYOTA ECU's or any other forms of Engine management that would be economical for the amount of boost(7) im running on my setup. So no SMC, AFC hacks, ect.

Thanks.. And please no smart ass remarks.. If you have benneficial information then please..., but if you are just looking to fill up foum space, please dont.

THIS IS ALL ON MY 2.2 DOHC 5S-FE TOYOTA ENGINE. (Incase somone has had experience with them).

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Well basically your left with using a FMU.They are not great but if you insist on not spending any money that is your only choice.Good deal you got on that setup. If i were you i would sell the Dseries manifold and deltagate and buy a SSautochrome wastegate and use whatever is left to get some injectors and a SAFC or maybe a Split Second unit or one of the HKS etc fuel controllers as they can be had for dirt cheap on ebay.Keep us updated on your setup its great to see non Honda HMT kits.

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Invest in either a 2 bar map, 310cc injectors and a safc, or just an SMT6/450's

Either that, or the AFC hack. Just search.

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Doesn't toyota use a tek distributor. I thought there were some toyotas that were compatible with honda ecu's. If that's the case there would be quite a few options for management.

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

i wouldnt try to put a honda ecu on my car lol.. but yeah throwin the FMU on i think i've decided unless someone ssays they'll chip my toyota ECU before i get the chance.

You can reprogram a Toyota ECU... just expect to spend 800-900 dollars for it :(

I would go with 450's and an SMT6. They're what I'm going to be using on my new setup, can't wait.

E-MANAGE or SMT-6

Just copy that kit from Burien Toyota that you were asking about a few months ago. The only part that I can see you having trouble finding is the MAP sensor. But even then, you can find those in the yard if you know where to look. (MKIII Supras aren't THAT uncommon)

For eng management they're using just injectors and i think the 2 bar map sensor.. You think the samE MAP can be taken out of the mk3 supras?(wtf is that btw? i dont know much about supras). it doesnt even specify what map sensor the kit comes with... ughh.. well i guess i'll throw in the fmu and after x-mas when i have money again i'll start callin junk yards for the injectors and 2bar....

What's a 2 bar map btw??? just to be used with the new injectors?

For now i guess the o'l check valves will be hooked up :)... :'(. sigh.. its pathetic i know.. Im just happy that i got the entire kit so far for $300, and payed it off witht he money i had sitting in the bank...

yea for 500+.. ???..

But THAT IS ANOTHER OPTION... you know.. IF i found an old mr2 turbo(celica alltracs wayy to rare) at the junkyard then i'll just throw the rods / pistons and maybe check out the smt6 route after a month or so and boost 10ish. WEll thx for everyone's 2cents. Later

If i were you i would sell the Dseries manifold and deltagate and buy a SSautochrome wastegate
Im sitting in class right now actually.. and i just dropped the d-seriees manifold off in construction so they can make and weld a new flange onto it with the outline that's being made by my other friend in advanced auto from an identical manifold as mine....

Hope that made sense...

But yeah... u think SSautochrome wastegates are quality? I've heard the good and bad of them on the forums. Anyone have pics of the damage?.. (vouchers)

Thanks again.

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Do you even know what you're getting into?

First off, it's been proven that the 310cc injectors from a MK3 n/a supra are way too small, and are very unsafe for even stock wastegate boost levels. A 2 bar map with the 310 injectors works, but it's not as reliable and you can't adjust your fuel tables at all, so I wouldn't really trust it. Plus, with the added cost of the MSD BTM, you're not that much father form an SMT6, or hell, even an APEX'i AFC.

3SGTE internals will not fit in a 5sfe. You could put your 5sfe head on a 3sgte block, but that's pointless. You'll lose displacement, and you'll still have a shitty head on there (compared to the 3sgte head). For the future, just buy forged pistons and rods, port the head and get some nice cams.

ok.

-----------------------------------

on a diff note.. the oil IN line came off a civic... and its like 5 feet long :)... im teeing into the front of the block (oil press)... so the distance fromt he source to the turbo inlet is like a foot... can i still run the oil in with all that extrra steel braided line? will it still get oil?

i dont know what to do on thoes map celicas. mine has a huge gate style MAF. i used an fmu and it ran like crap. took it off and it ran alright with some larger injectors. running the maf pre turbo. with timing retarded from the dizzy. motor was fine until i finaly spun a bearing.

Rod bearing?

The best bet with Toyotas is to find a TechTom dealer (good friggin luck) or put in a standalone. Ebay has a lot of good deals on different systems or just build a Megasquirt for it and call it a day.

USS 12-10-2005 04:52 PM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Either that, or convert that MAF sensor to a map w/ the SMT7 ;)

In regards to the oil line it is fine if its way to long the oil is under quite a bit of pressure so it will get there either way.Why not just shorten it though?

sweet.. Thanks for the good news..

but can u shorten steel braided line?

Sure.Figure out your length and wrap somm black tape around it then cut it with a hacksaw or whatever you got. Then take it by a hose/hydraulics/fittings shop and have them crimp a new fitting on the end.Industrial hose and fitting shops also sell really nice high grade silicone hose by the foot for making couplers.I see alot of people paying out the ass for braided lines, silicone etc when you can go by any industrial hose/fitting supply place and get the same thing in the same or better quality for half price.Good luck with the Toyota project.Keep us updated.

penguininatux 12-11-2005 01:08 PM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

yeah.. i was at home depot yesterday n was checkin out couplers.. they have 3 inch and 2 inch.. not 2.5!!!!.. made me really sad.. I have all the charge piiping, but it was off a civic, so im thinkin im gonna have to buy 1 or 2 charge pipes/ couplers for the FMIC to fit properly. lol but i have no clue where to find an idustiral hose/hydraulics/fittings shop.. but i was thinking for a strait charge pipe if i need it i could grab an aluminum pipe from home depot or autozone.. but if i need a mandrel bent piping, then i dunno where im going...

Yellow pages are your friend.

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

ehhh.. so im just keeping the braided inlet line as is... just coiling it so it looks a little better.. im happy as long as im gettin oil... got syllicone oil out tubing with brass fitting and jb weld =].. HMT style... The guy at the hardware store said the tubing would eventually turn into mush.. so i just said "cool.. thanks".. n went off n bought it =]. also picked up some fernco couplers which i guess seal and last a long time according to the guy. and some WD-40. oh yeah and 5 quarts of mobil 1 synthetics..... so im all set..

HOping to hook everything up toamrrow (mondaY) after school for 2 hours, and then when i get off work at 9 until completeted.. Not stopping til its done. =]... That is if my friend finishes welding the flange onto the d-series mani by tomarrow.. if he doesnt im gonna kick him in the nuts.. Anyways.. I'll let you guys know how its going toamrrow night.

OH one thing.. hes making the manifold, but i forgot to tell him to make a place for the O2 sensor. :P.. i was thinkin bout that today.. should i cut mine tomarrow morning and give it to him to weld in tomarrow? WEll let me know ASAP.. Later

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

Put your O2 in the downpipe it is alot easier to mount in the exhaust pipe than the manifold.

penguininatux 12-11-2005 11:11 PM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

will it give the same reading as if it was in one of the runners or manifold?? i thought i read somewhere that it gives u diff readings.. o well.. im going to do it anyways lol... and.. will the o2 sensor make the car run any diff if its hooked in or not.. cuz i thought it was jsut the map sensor u cant disturb... neways.. let me know.

90dx 12-11-2005 11:58 PM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

You are reffering to the OE O2 sensor right?

penguininatux 12-12-2005 01:31 AM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

yeah.. i wanna wideband soon though.. i have some extra cash for upgrades.. but just wanna get the damn thing on and be boosting asap lol.. will start ordering parts as soon as i get the kit on...

90dx 12-12-2005 02:47 AM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

You want the sensor after the turbo and before the cat if you have one.

penguininatux 12-12-2005 02:38 PM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

kk cool.. i'll have ta have him weld the o2 into the down pipe b4 i get it mated.

k.. one of the last and hopefully final problems.. THE ADAPTER THING FOR THE OIL FEED.. I need the 1/8 NBT fitting.. i think its NBT.. something along those lines.. neways.. they sell it at TUNER TOYS.. but they're all out of stock.. anyone else know where to get them?

90dx 12-15-2005 01:50 AM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

On a Honda it is 1/8 BSPT.British standard pipe thread i believe that stands for.If that is the same on your Toyota then you can get one at lots of places.Try a Napa, auto parts places or like i said open the yellow pages and start looking for industrial supply places.hydraulic shops, hose places etc.

penguininatux 12-15-2005 09:54 AM

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

<-- so impatient.... i bought the double outlet adaopter from Tunertoys... for $30 total last nite.. haha.. o welll.. How much you think it woulda been at like NAPA or something?? please tell me it'd be atleast $15 so i dont feel that stupid... I bet i coulda gotten it sooner also if I got the hook up from Napa also... Anyways.. I know i said i was gonna get the manifold earlier (Monday).. but monday he couldnt work on it and tuesday he said he was almost done.. Yesteerday he said he was done, but was heat treating it to fortify it.. Anyways.. Long story short if i dont get it today then im regulating =].. Anyways. 90dx or someone hook me up with some info.. Later

Re: !!!!!!!!!TOYOTA ENGINE MANAGEMENT?

haha ok.. TUNER TOYS REPRESENT!!!. :y..

Anyways.. soo... i took my car over to my buddies house where we're doing the install.. he has a bunch of air tools etc and. a lot more space than i do .. So yeah. we started last nite. I dont know if anyone on here has taken an oil pan off a 5th gen ceilca b4.. but OMG>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :3.... 3 hours.. :(... there was this bolt inbetween the tranny and a center support that one of the engine mounts is attatched to. seriously.. I almost cried.. haha..

Anyways.. finally got it off and then the exhaust is in the way :).. greased the bolts up and set took the impact wrench to one of em.. Stripped the ---- outa the bolt.. we were using the right size socket and everything.. It was just stuck. So im cutting right below where the cat piping connects to the exhaust manifold and bracing it until i get an exhaust shop to mate the down pipe and dump tube to it... Sigh.. i was hoping to get a lot more done yesterday.. but o wel.. didnt even get the chance to JB weld the fitting in :(..

OH yeah... and FMU's are wayyy easy on hondas because of the easy access to the fuel rail and FPR.... MIne is hidden underneath the intake manifold and behind the block.. haha.. ITS such a tite fit.. And i dont see the fuel line running to the FPR either.. i was so0o confused.. and im 100 percent sure its the FPR.. (it was right on the end of the fuel rail =] ... ). and i know what a FPR looks like.. and i was like 99% sure that the fuel line has to run through the FPR.. but anyone that has done some work with a ceilca or toyota in general.. give me some info.. . Thanks.
