Default Spark strength question.

We have finally been able to hit 10,000 RPM and have a steady 800 volts from the ferite. Current draw from the bat. is arround 10 Amps which kinds puts it outa reach of most bike owners.

Was thinking of using it for my Turbo Car ignition.
The problem is that all automotive components are rated for 400-410 volts.
If we want to go higher we get into very costlly components.
Power wise the bigest puch seems to come in with a primary voltage of arround 550 volts. The diffirence is noticeable.

THe doubt I have is Ive read most HT coils can not handle more than 45K output. The voltage would short them internally. Starting with a small leak that would grow over time. This I have observed after 45 KV current starts leaking all over the place.

Could somebody explain what the voltage outputs are in terms of Primary side voltage on ignitinos in the US.

Is there a limit after which pumpig out more juice is point less.
We are going to do one unit with a 800 volt primary and take a video of the spark its over 10" long.

Any tips or ideas as to how to proceed from here would be gr8.
Thanks
Chinoy

I'm pretty sure some of the modern coils put out 100K or more, but that is an off the top of the head opinion and NOT a fact. I'm probably correct, though.

Why not use the coil off a bike if the car stuff doesn't cut the mustard?

Sorry I'm not much good on this subject - you're doing stuff I'd never thought of/on much less DONE.

How's plug life? Have to change them often?

This is where Im confused. Have yet to come across a 100 Kv HT coil.
Most even the top of the line so called performance coils like the MSD stuff is only rated to 45KV and the regular automotive bottle coils to 25KV.
Even got a coil from a Merc. It was rated to 25Kv

To produce 100 Kv it would need at least 1000 Volts on the primary right.
Ive not yet heard of any such automotive components with that kinda control circuitry. Even MSD only use a 400 Volt 1MFD cap. And they are considered performance.

Plug life havent bothered to even chk.
