Re: spark advance vs safc2

i dont have a honda i'm afraid, i dream of having one day a civic 3 door, black 1.6 Vti 160hp... but hard to have in good condition and cheap here in portugal. And besides, i need a garage to park the car because civics are really easy to steal and are stolen a LOT here.

I have a Corsa B 1.6 GSI turbo instead. Like it a lot ;D

Since your distributor is not mechanical (distributorless ignition system), as stated before, you could try a MSD BTM or get your ECU chipped.

Assuming you have a Honda, you would retard the distributor/ignition timing by pulling the distributor towards the front of the car. I have used the VAFC-1, and that's the same thing I did to mine. I had to retard mine to 7 degees BTDC to avoid pinging. FYI...I made 225whp/211ftq on a SOHC using this method

STupid qestion but

how can u tell how many degrees u retard it i have a timing gun already??? cause im gonna put mines in soon.

Not a stupid question. When I was getting the car tuned, I retarded the distributor until the tuner was satisfied he could not hear any pinging. In the end the distributor was set at 7 degrees BTDC (result of a 9 degrees retard). FYI...I was running 15 pounds of boost.

Tuning with an afc is simply archaic. Not only do you have the timing advance issues with oversized injectors, but you also have to deal with injector latency problems and loss of mid throttle response. Afc's might be one thing on factory turbocharged cars that already have oversized injectors...because at that point you're retarding the timing slightly when running into + percentage increases. On factory non-turbocharged cars though it usually causes more issues than help, especially if you've nevere played with an afc before.
This Corsa B you speak of...is it factory turbo'd? If so, an afc might work ok for your application.
