retard base timing

Default retard base timing

I have a d16a6 in a civic and i was wondering if someone could direct me where i could find how to retard the timing from the distribitor and what spark plugs are two steps cooler. Thanks in advance oh and i looked about the plug thing all i can find is stuff for the Z6.

Jump the service connector in the passenger side kick panel then you can get a true timing reading to retard. Go to the auto parts store and get the NGK plug book from behind the counter. The book wiil explain what the numbers mean. 2 steps colder may not be needed.

I think the connector is going to be under the hood on the driver side fender well on his car.

Doc's right. Jump the service connector and to set the base timing you loosen the 3 12mm bolts on the distributor and rotate the distributor clockwise. Using a timing light set it down a few degrees. 12-14 is pretty decent if your running the hack or something.
