Default New way to flash eproms?

Ok guys...i know it's been a while since i've been on here, too much work lately, but i think i may have stumbled across another way to flash eproms without having to go buy a burner (batronix or otherwise). Jason, lemme know if u have tried this at all, or if this is a repost. I stumbled across this trying to fix an old computer. The BIOS chip was bad, so i had to reflash it using a program designed for that particular chip (in my case, awdflash for award eeproms). This program flash's chips using a normal *.bin file. They are also other programs that are able to use a *.rom file. Think that it might be possible to flash eeproms using an old computer? Send me some input if you already know...and in the meantime, i'm going to try out some TE bin files in my pm6 and let you guys know.

the awd flash program looks for certain information before burning. it will attempt to identify the chip, as well as write a boot section to the rom. you'd have to find exactly the right board and exactly the right revision of software, or find a way to bypass the checksum.

I've tried on a couple of boards, but no luck.

The board i'm using already uses a 28c256 (think that's the one). Who knows...the checksum might be an issue, i'll look into that some more. I'll give it a test run though and let ya's know if it works out. BTW, this is an OLD *** computer (early 90's...early pentium 90 i believe).

It has been done using old mobo's using a hacked copy of the bios flash utility. People have use adaptec scsi cards as well.
