ECU checks the 'checksum' to make sure its running the proper code before starting up and giving the 'all clear' (no CELs)

When when you go in a change things, the checksum changes so you disable it so that the ECU doesnt freak it.

Thats a basic synopsis...geek boy TurboEF9 might have a better explanation :P

Just because Mr Parker calculates ---- out to 20 decimal places, does make him a geek.

hmm maybe thats why the car would give a solid cel after changing chips... would go away after the second start though.

it went:

change chip
turn key to ON
solid cel
turn key OFF
turn key ON
no cel

sound like the checksum thing? it hasnt done it with crome

Who knows...I havent had it happen in a while.

I have also heard that if you have the issue with an SST chip, burn it on an Amtel and there is no problem. I dont understand how that could possibly work...but someone posted it once so try it if you have that problem. if not, dont worry about it...its not like its a common issue or anything.
