Default minimum requirements for a laptop solely for datalogging/tuning/chip burning

what are the minimum requirements for a laptop that i would be using for datalogging, tuning with uberdata, and burning chips? for some reason i remeber hearing that 700mhz processor is plenty for running uberdata. im more concerned about ram for datalogging. what are you guys using? im curious cause there are a few laptops for under $150 locally, which is a great deal if they will work for this, but its a total waste of money if it wont. thanks for your help.

Ive had success w/ a P2-300, 128meg Thinkpad, and a p2-400, 128meg Thinkpad.
Pretty much any ---- box that can run W2k or XP will do fine. $150 is plenty for that.

Also, I prefer IBM's because its easier to drive and use the 'nipple' mouse than a touch pad.

solid advice.

i sport an older dell inspiron, for good reasons. its a p3 500mhz, 256mb ram, 30gb hdd, windows xp

1 - has both nipple and touchpad, dave lee aint got nothin on me, lol
2 - serial, parallel and USB ports, newer laptops don't tend to have serials and ----.
3 - it was cheap, paid about 220 for it
4 - it can host 2 batteries, 4-5 hours of solid use easy.

If you ever tuenar a bigger power ride that really tears through the high rpm range in 3-4th gear, some of the scripted programs - depending on system quirks - tend to need more processor power. Crome can be a little wierd on anything sub 1.5 Ghz. UD logged fine on my damaged Thinkpad T20 - theo-rectally a 700 Mhz P3 with the first era of clock-on-the-fly processors that scale processor speed up and down depending on battery meter and various settings. IRL, my lappy runs 527 Mhz, and no faster.

Yeah, I understand they make compatible P3 stepping processors up to either 900Mhz or 1Ghz.

How much did you pay for your upgrade processor? And do you have the thinkpad service manuals anywhere? I think the problem with mine is the BIOS is corrupt (won't charge or recognize the battery) and I'm not sure if the damn thing is even socketed like a normal computer's.

I used one of the cheapest, shittiest, slowest laptops ever made and it worked fine. Zeitronix was kinda sketchy and I had to upgrade the memory to run XP, but it worked just fine.

Dataloging is only stressful when you get on the brakes after your 3rd gear WOT ripper, and your laptop fly's off the seat.
