ok i just did this in xp and 2000 so i know this is correct.

right click your my computer icon, select properties, device manager.

click the plus sign next to the ports(com & LPT) then double click communications port ( mine shows up as com1)

ok this is where it gets retarded, if you do not see the port settings tab then you must not have full administrative privleges ( your probably a power user or some ----, lol.)

otherwise, click on port settings tab, then click advanced.

in the lower right hand corner there is a dropdown to change the port assignment.

When you plug in your burner does another COM port appear under the COM & LPT list?

I'd go into your BIOS and check the settings for serial ports. Sometimes a com port and a serial port share resources and that can confuse Windows.
