Help install moates burner *help computer geeks*

I've installed my chip burner on 3 different computers before, but now that i finally got my own laptop for tuning, i cant assign a com port to my usb port. When i click on device manager, it shows printer port LPT1 and communications port com2 (with a serial connection?) and then under universial serial bus controllers, it lists PCI to USB universal host controller and usb root hub. Im assuming im hooking the burner up to the root hub, the only tabs it shows is: general; driver; power; powermanagement

to change the com port, there should be a port settings tab right? I dont know ---- about computers... help me out

in case it helps, my laptop is a thinkpad 390x with a P3. Got it for $40 too ;D

Goto the COM Port you want to change.

Enter Properties.
Under Port Setting Goto "Advance" Tab

Should be right there.

open up one of your communications port , then click the port setting tab, then hit the advanced button, then it should open up were you can change the com numbers / speeds. Post up some screen shots, what OS are you running?

have you tried downloading the driver w/ the burner disconnected, then wait 30 seconds after driver install connect the burner to the laptop, wait 15 secs. then open your program. if that doesnt help sorry.

It won't be under the,"Unniversal Serial Bus Controllers."

It will be under,"Ports COM & LPT."

Maybe I'm breaking down too far. :-\

ok, so when i click on "ports com and lpt" it only shows communications port (com 2 at the moment) and printer port lpt 1. But i have a serial port and a usb? My burner is usb powered and needs to be on com 3 or 4 i think. This ---- is weird, like i said... i hooked this thing up on 3 of my friends computers with no problem.. i dunno

When you unplug your burner does COM2 disappear? If so then your burner is using COM2. In which case you need to follow the proceedure mentioned above. If you can unplug it and plug it back in and you COM list doesn't refresh then I don't know what to tell you.

Good luck. ;D
