I read an article somewhere that said with a richer mixture the egt also goes hotter, it said that at stoich you have the coolest egts, is this true?

Maybe...remember if you are a little richer that you will have cooler cylinder temps and not necessarily exhaust gas temps.

You could be running to rich with too much retard and your EGTs will skyrocket while your cylinder temps will be rather tame.
