Well I doubt you could make a honda distributer work on a miata. So use mega squirt. I think you could possibly use an aem ems to. Ive seen a few of those going for around 600 lately. the resale value on the aem doesn't really seem that high anymore. But hey megasquirt rocks from what Ive looked at. I plan on building one someday and running a car on it.
either way is just about mounting the sensors needed to support the ecu. Megasquirt is configurable to run just about any sensors/ignition you can find, where crome you need to mount the distributor from a honda and use the honda ecu and sensors. either would work, but I'd be leaning towards megasquirt. by the time you add up all the costs for modifying and mounting honda stuff to the engine, you could have bought the megasquirt.
I have no experience with megasquirt running a car, but i built one and had it running the stim on the bench. It's a pretty straight-forward system.
What type of ignition do the miata's have stock?

People have made Honduh distributors work before. You can flip the reluctors, etc, on the inside.
The Miata CAM sensor is jammed up against the firewall so you could never fit a Honduh distributor.
I have experience with MS v3.0 with 1st gen processor on a 91 Miata, car runs clean. 175 whp @ 11 psi on a T2, 8.4 in the 1/8th with video of it stroking multiple F-bodies at the dragstrip.
