Default AFC-R ( Not S-AFC ) Help please.

A friend of mine called me the other day and he said this guy brought a car ( 94 civic coupe ) into his shop. They performed a LS/VTec swap and put in a T4 turbo kit ( possibly drag I'm guessing he didn't say ) Well right now he's running the stock fuel pump and stock injectors ( .. yes thats what I said " You're running stock injectors ad stock pump on a T4 )anyway he says once the car hits 4K RPM at WOT ( wide open throttle )it hit's fuel cut and you can fell the car spudering and you can hear the wastegate and BOV go off. I told him first to change out the pump and put some DSM injectors with the resitor box and told him what to set the S-AFC at and try that. Well also the AFC-R is not tuned or set right it'll f*ck with the boost cause it controlls the waste gate. He wants to know if anyone knows what to set the " Duty Cycle " at and any other setting with the AFC-R. Yes I know doing what he did isn't too bright but I have only experience with the AFC not the AFC-R and I hear they're a b*tch to mess with. So any ideas ?

It's AVC-R you're talking about I guess...I've fitted one on a freind's twin turbo Supra mkIV.And you're right,it's not that easy...

Actually,if you want to always have your boost controled by the AVC-R,you have to set your waste gate at a low boost opening, i.e if you want to run 10 psi boost, your waste gate have to be opened when you hit 8 psi boost for example.

The solenoid of the AVC-R will act like a "magic bleed valve" allowing you to always have the desired boost. This solenoid will fool the waste gate in order to control it.

To set up your AVC-R,you have to proceed like this:
- wire it (no harder than an AFC)
- set all the basic data (in the "etc" menu: cylinder, throttle response, learn gear,etc...) : it's quite the same as an AFC set-up
- set-up the way you want to have your boost controled:
1/ enter the amount of boost you want to obtain (targetted boost)
2/ set the duty value (it will manage the amount of time when the solenoid will be opened). You'll have to go step by step.Start with a little figure and the raise it until you get the amount of boost you want. When your duty set-up will enable your engine to run quite the same boost you have set-up as targetted boost on your AVC-R,your duty figure will be replaced by stars: *** . Your AVC-R is now in self learning mode.It means it will try to maintain this value after the full boost has been reached.Actually if you get your 10 psi at 4000rpm,you'll still have your 10 psi at 8000rpm.
3/ enter the fine set-up menu and set your Ne points (like on AFC) and everything else you can change (the way your AVC-R will react when it will see boost spikes, the way you want to get your boost depending on which gear you are...)

4/ Enjoy!!!

If it's not clear or if you have more questions, don't hesit!
