Default advancing and retarding timing in Turboedit

So I'm confused on how to advance and retard my timing in turboedit. I realize I go to the ignition map and can highlight multiple areas at one time to adjust. When I increase the number in the box, am I advancing or retarding the timing, I've put way too much thought into each scenario and feel like either could work in my head.

thanks

thanks, linear, just using it to get my N/A timing good. I did some light combustion chamber and port work so I need to change the tuning a little.
