advancing and retarding timing in Turboedit

So I'm confused on how to advance and retard my timing in turboedit. I realize I go to the ignition map and can highlight multiple areas at one time to adjust. When I increase the number in the box, am I advancing or retarding the timing, I've put way too much thought into each scenario and feel like either could work in my head. :S

thanks

Higher number advance. You using a linear or step retard?

thanks, linear, just using it to get my N/A timing good. I did some light combustion chamber and port work so I need to change the tuning a little.
