I blew the holy ---- out of a head gasket the other night. That's what I get for thinking I know how to tune timing maps. Needless to say I'll be running less timing from now on.......

EDIT: Hey Kevin, why is that map you sent me at 28.25 on the topend?

Straight timing doesn't tell you anything. You need to know what RPM. Generally all other things being equal your mixture will burn at the same speed regardless if you're at 3000 or 6000 RPM. So at 6000 RPM you need to light it off sooner because the piston is moving quicker and the cylinder pressures will be lower as you pass TDC.

I see no problem at all running 19 degrees at 16 PSI above 4500 RPM with good fuel and a decent intercooler. Some cars I've tuned run as much as 25 degrees at 6000 and 16 PSI

I agree 100%, the whole idea being to light the ****** off so as to hit peak cyl pressure at around 15* ATDC. As Im sure you've noticed, the reason why timing #'s are throw around without mention of RPM, is that it is assumed that the ramp up in timing will remain close to stock. IE, achieve peak timing at around 3500ish for a D.

@ 16psi on my map making 600hp i'm pulling 8 to 9 degrees of timing. at say about 5500rpm so i'd say that's too much timing. But then again i could still add more timing there's barly any in it. People with the AEM i'll share it with you. or post some screen shots of my map
