The gxe has which motor? QR25? I've got 3 G20s at my house, but I can't remember stuff about many other nissans, someone knows;...

really, I did realize both motor options were the 6s. the vq30 came in a couple of infinities... J30, M30(rare), search for used parts of theirs, not many infiniti owners work on their own, so used parts go cheap. I got a rebuilt SR20 Starter marker for the G20 for like $35. From napa they want like $175 for the same rebuilt one.

The 300zx is simply the vq30dett (right?) so that may work as well.

yeah, i was thinking from the 300, but it's rear wheel drive, the starter may be tranny dependent not engine dependent, i'm not sure though.........

uhmm, VG30 is from 3rd gen maxima (SOHC)VE30 (DOHC)
The other VG30 you talking about was for the 300z rwd.
For the 5th gen maxima (2000-2003), they use the VQ30DE motor, 6th gen they use 3.5 liter as well the Altima v6 verison.

You are close, but not quite right.

89-94 GXE/89-91 SE = VG30E
92-94 SE = VE30DE (what I have)
95-99 (all) = VQ30DE
00-01 (all) = VQ30DE-K (k=improved or some crap)
02-03 (all) = VQ35DE
04+ (all) = VQ35DE (tuned a bit differnet)

You should be able to use a starter for any 00-03 Maxima I think. Best bet is a rebuilt starter with a lifetime warranty from a parts store.
