I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, just move it if it's not... I'm not familiar w/ these things at all... So I figured I'd post up and see what I can find. I'm having a VERY hard starting issue w/ my 93 jeep grand cherokee 4.0L. As it got colder, it got harder and harder to start. Eventually it wouldn't even start until you cranked it over for a LONG time (like 5+ mins) and the check engine light comes on and starts flashing and she finally kicks over and starts up. Before the check engine light comes on though, there is no fuel, fuel pump does not turn on. I took the advice of my cousin and replaced the crank sensor (common problem w/ these guys), and it's a little bit better. Right after I put it in, it fired right up like normal. But now it's having problems again (few hours later) Now, as soon as I turn the key to the on position, the ASD relay and fuel pump relay just go nuts and start clicking. When turning over, still no fuel as well, but if you turn the key to the on position and wait for a minute or so, they stop clicking, the check engine light comes on, and you can hear the fuel pump prime and you can turn it over and it starts. And after it starts, it rus perfectly fine. WTF is wrong w/ this thing?

replace the relay, (one of) my (many) f150 had a cracked relay, it would ground itself out on the initial koeo, and not start. replaced it, problem solved. have you tried leaving the + terminal unplugged for a couple of mins? pop it back on, see if it makes a difference. really dont know if your problem is chrysler related..

I'm Not a noob with diagnosing cars, I just don't have any tools to do it right now I did try both of your suggestions though, probably shoulda put that in my first post

the only thing that will make a relay buzz is low voltage on the trigger wires. IF I rember corectly those always have power and the ground is the control.

I deffinatley understand what your talking about, but i'm trying to find out why it's doing that, and just clicking the relays on and off. Because after it starts, they stay energized and work perfectly. they just click away until the cel turns off

Symptom: Will not start immediately in cold ambient temperatures, no MIL immediately at key on, no communication with scanner, auto shut down (ASD) relay is clicking. Wait for awhile with key on and MIL comes and and then it will start.



System: Emissions/PCM/Fuel



Codes: N/A



Problem: When the ambient temperature drops below 40 degrees, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) fails to power up until warmed up or key is left in the on position, the MIL comes on and the relays start clicking.



Test & Fix: If the problem cannot be duplicated, remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and cool it in a freezer. Reinstall the PCM and check if symptoms are present. If symptoms are present and powers and grounds are OK, replace the PCM. "
