I'm going on 7 years.

I can't believe when I pull into a fast food place and see some dude in his 30's flipping burgers. I just think to myself "What the ---- did you do so wrong in life that you're here right now?". I'm too damn proud at the age of 23 to work in a fast food restaurant and this guy is in his 30's? That's rediculous. How can you provide for a family, as a man, making minimum wage? Isn't there something you can be doing to be making more money? Fast food is for high school students working for beer money, not grown men trying to support a family.

Some of these people aren't even on drugs. It's just lack of ambition and laziness. If you don't have the drive and the motivation to succeed, you probably won't.

I get the point, but I don't understand why it bothers people so much. First off, at least he has a job. Secondly, if he was a motivated, educated guy, you'd be paying $9.49 for a cheeseburger meal. Thirdly, live and let live. For all you know, this guy just took a massive step forward and got a legit job, rehabilitated his drug problem, etc. etc.

Particularly when I was in the army, I learned then that nothing is ever as simple as it seems. The kid who can hold a steady job down at McD's despite the fact that his dad breaks frying pans over his head every few days (true story) is twice the man any of us are..

hey that's a great success story there 24 yo. people shouldn't blame society when they're adults for their fucked up cituations. but, ones' surroundings can certainly influence their decisions if they have a weak mind. atleast 70% of the population or higher have weak minds that can be easily manipulated by their surroundings, those are the ones that blame others for their problems.

for the most part..i agree. but if it is the only thing he could get, to at least try to make money for his family..a futile effort, but at least he's attemting to make it work.

For the most part (IMHO), poverty is from ill motivated people that grew up on welfare and see welfare as an option.

I run a loan office in MN for students that are in financial "emergencies". Typically, these "emergencies" are just being short on rent because they went out last month and spent too much money. Kids that grow up in good financial situations, go broke trying to keep up that standard of living without working, it's stupid.

As for the repayment to slavery to the Native's and blacks, our generations living today didn't do ---- compared to historical events. Yeah, your race got treated like ---- by some dumbass white guys and fucked up life for your ancestors, but that was then, this is now. If you expect society to kiss your *** for mistakes made a long time ago that a lot of people know were wrong, that's bull.

If you come up to me and expect special treatment because you feel you were wronged by "my" people in some way. I will laugh in your face. If you are in America and a citizen in this day and age, you are "my" people, I don't care if you are a different color/religion/etc you are still "American". The ---- that has happened in the past is not something I'm ashamed of, because I didn't do it. I don't agree with a lot of things our coutry's Gov't has done, but I'm not ashamed to be an American because of those things I had no control over.

Yeah it sucks that some communities are much worse off than others, but I'm in no position to better the world. I like to think that if I was, I would make a difference, but that's just a nice thought, it doesn't help anyone.

Sorry for the rambling, it probably didn't make much sense, but I'm no shakespeare. I've got to get back to helping these students.

Don't feel blessed, feel empathy. Understand that quality of life is a relative thing, and not everyone has the drive and motivation you speak of.

And sadly no, I don't feel better.

I would have to agree with some of the points that are being said. But most blacks beleive since there in this country they should get a free ride. Look at the child support system. Women rather get pregnant from a guy who looks like he has money b/c of what he drives. A bad mistake in a black males life can cost him his future in terms of getting a job. If he's 13yrs old and sells crack/dope and his moms his hook on dope and she's not taking care of him and the other kids that she has. Then that's a problem, if he get's knock by the cops then he'll have to go to juvi and do a little bid. I don't justify this but seen it happen a few times. Some black kids go to school an get good grades then die over some bullshit that happens on the street. Alot of blacks and hispanics, etc think that welfare is the answer but there going to start cutting welfare so your going to start seeing alot of proverty. In Ny they have the females on welfare work for their money instead of sitting home picking up a check.
