That's retarded. They don't "look" bad? What would a bad rebuild kit look like? The bottom line is that's just some ---- they threw together that somewhat resembles the internal components of a 14b, and was made by some rough specs they got somewhere else. Everything in those Ebay kits is absolute ----. I guarantee the turbo will fail immediately or way premature if you go with one of those kits. He should care even if it's a junkyard turbo because a catastrophic failure of the turbocharger can cause failure of major components. Luckily the Mitsu turbos will usually ---- the turbine wheel out the exhaust before the compressor side disintegrates, but if that compressor decides to shred then he's definitely going to be seeing metallic flakes in his oil which means bye-bye bearings and a complete engine rebuild. So why take the chance just to save a few bucks?

To the OP; you're right Mitsubishi doesn't sell a rebuild kit, and anyone claiming they do is full of ----. Anything you buy is going to be aftermarket replacement, so you should go with a tried and true company. For Mitsu internals I would go with G-Pop. They are U.S. made aftermarket so not OE, but they actually have some research and development behind them rather than some Chinese odds and ends tossed in a pretty little box like you'll get from Ebay. Just make sure you have the shaft straightened before re-installation and also use a dial indicator to make sure the tolerances are within specified limits. A lot of time used turbos will have a worn shaft which will cause it to be "out of spec" right away if you replace the bearings with standard size.

People telling you to just toss some random internals into your turbo aren't very smart. Sure the turbo is only worth $100, but the consequences of a major failure could end up costing you a whole lot more time and money.

That was unfortunately a bad decision. Forced Performance kits suck royal ***. They're absolutely NOT the kits they use in their own turbos and aren't genuine Mitsubishi in any way, shape, or form. I guarantee that the center o-ring will be too fat and not allow the seal plate to sit low enough which will mean there's not enough room for the snap ring to seat and hold the plate down. I can't recall at the moment, but there is some other issues with that rebuild kit too.

I did the same thing on one of my first 16g's. I figured since they make some baller turbos they'd have the parts to repair them with, and their rebuild kit would be what they use on their turbos. I was wrong. IIRC you paid about $90 for that kit. You should return it, spend ~$30 and just buy a good used 14b.

If you want to upgrade that 14b to a 16g; I have a genuine Mitsubishi big16g compressor side that I'd sell ya for a good price. You'll just need a different seal plate and thrust collar because the 16g wheel is the a superback design and indented not flatback like a 14b wheel. The indented seal plate and shorter thrust collar can be bought as a kit from DBS for $29. That's absolutely all you need to convert your 14b to a 16G (not including the 16g comp wheel and comp housing). No machining required. If you're rebuilding it anyway you may as well give it a proper compressor. Both turbos use the exact same TDO5H turbine wheel so that makes it easy as well. Only difference at all would be the 14b's 6cm turbine housing vs the true 16g's 7cm.

But yeah man, FP rebuild kits FTL. Tell them to not send it out and refund you or give you credit for some other ----. Pm me if you need help with the turbo or want to upgrade it to a 16g compressor. Ok man good luck.
