Re: GT2854R Needed
Not anything huge, 1584cc vw boxer motor, 4500rpm redline, max boost of 12lbs for the rods sake, air to water inter cooler, blow through dual carburetor application... looking to make around 150 hp
if you would like to suggest a comparable turbo then I am all ears
and I want to be the fish in your picture

Re: GT2854R Needed
Bottom line is that there are plenty of turbos that come off factory boosted cars you can use. They're available in good used condition from $80-$150. You'll get the same top end as a ball bearing turbo, just slightly slower spool, but if you get a small T2 turbo you're not going to have to worry about spool up haha. Buying a ball bearing T2 is ------- retarded except in situations where it's warranted. Yours is not.
Save yourself $500 and get a standard bearing T2 or any of the other stockers like the IHI turbos or the KO3 off an Audi or yes the GT17 off a Saab, but those suck ***, so actually ---- a GT17 too haha. I still say T25 off a DSM. They can run at 12psi for 150k miles and are actually pretty potent for such a small turbo.

Re: GT2854R Needed
The spool differences between a T2 and an OEM T28 off a GTi-R are miniscule to the point of being identical.
I tuned a 1.6 liter Miata with a T2, 176 whp @ 11 psi. I later street tuned the same car with a GTi-R's T28, same spool but it wanted a little more fuel = making more power.
Wanting a $$$$ GT-series turbo on a power limited stock rod motor is a waste of time. Like these guys are saying there's LOTs of turbos that spool quick and make more than you are looking to make for a fraction of the Garrett GT.
