Your right you paid for it so you can do whatever you want with it. I think the point everybody is trying to make is the tyrus intercooler is a lot better than a DSM side mount or starion intercooler. The only thing down sizing will do for you is make it easier to fit in your car.
Here's the article on Jeff's tyrus intercooler install. Jeff said he had an improvememnt in performance when he switched from the starion to the tyrus. I think if he can fit that IC in his rex you should be able to fit in in your car too. Just trying to help you out, but again you can do whatever you want.
