We have 10! - SMT-6 Group Buy - Post your desired buy date!
That's right! Tuner Toys is becoming a dealer for the Perfect Power SMT-6 Controller, and our first move is to provide you guys with an excellent group buy on the SMT-6! The target price for this group buy is $290This is the lowest price we have seen anywhere for the SMT-6! We searched long and hard for an Engine Management product that could provide the greatest value for the least amount of money. We think the SMT-6 provides that value, so we chose to become an authorized dealer. http://www.tunertoys.com/images/SMT6/smt6.gif When turbocharging, the basic home made turbo setup must have increased fuel levels and ignition retard capabilities. There are many ways to achieve these capabilities, some good, others bad. For increased fuel, we find the function and performance of an FMU to be completely unacceptable. The transition from vacuum to boost is very problematic. Many people have had problems with FMUs, and we do not reccommend them to anyone! A much better solution is to use larger injectors with a piggyback controller. This allows you to actively control and tune the injectors to get the best performance and reliability from your turbocharged vehicle. Currently, the cheapest piggyback solution we have found for controlling larger injectors, is around $120 - $150 plus shipping. This unit intercepts the map signal and alters it based on RPM-dependant correction factors. The above piggyback unit gets you only halfway there, you'll also need a separate unit for ignition retard. Most of the turbo setups we have experienced use the MSD Boost Timing Master (BTM) to achieve ignition retard. The BTM allows you to set ignition retard based on boost levels. One of these will cost you $165 plus shipping. Used together, these two units are the cheapest way we have found to get control of your fuel and ignition. Including shipping, you can expect to pay well over $300 for them. They are however, a very simple and limited solution. There are no interactive controls or interfaces. No Logging, No VTEC control, No Wideband, No Maps, ...you get the idea. For that same $300, you can get all those things mentioned above, and a whole lot more! The SMT-6 also offers...
Check out all this little unit can do at the Perfect Power website...http://www.perfectpower.com/products/smt6.asp We only need ten folks to participate in the group buy to qualify for the $290 price break. Ten is the minimum, there is no maximum number of participants. The first ten units will be shipped as soon as the first ten folks have made payment arrangements. Subsequent orders will be processed in groups of five. We expect to keep the group buy open into the first week or two of January, but will certainly close before the last week of January. We'll keep all participants posted, and answer all emails and questions. Feel free to post or PM here at HMT, or send us an email at sales@tunertoys.com. As is always the case with our sales campaigns on HMT, we'll be donating a portion of the proceeds to the support of HMT, and if participation is high enough, we'll donate a complete SMT-6 setup to HMT's next project car. Thanks guys! Let me know if we missed anything! from Craig @ Tuner Toys Our vouch - Check out all the happy HMT'ers who have previously purchased from us... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...;threadid=6138 |

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I'm mildly interested. I wish I could find more experience-based information about this product. I've searched numerous boards and have come up with little info.

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
ditto...i like the idea of it though

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
Wrote a quick email to "donalson", who previously put together a group buy for the SMT-6 here on HMT. I asked him to reply with the good and the bad experiences the guys had from that group buy about the SMT-6.
I'll pass along his response, and hopefully get some of the buyers from that GB to make a few comments here... There is also the PerfectPower forums... http://www.perfectpowerforum.tk/ They have a pretty active board, with several moderators who really get into the technicals of the SMT-6. Check out some of the threads there to get a feeling of customer feedback on the units. Here is a link to the installation manual, gives you a pretty good idea of how things work, and how to calibrate the unit. http://www.perfectpower.com/Download...on%20Guide.pdf Craig |

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I am very interested. I will be getting some money for Christmas and this would be perfect. I would like to know if the comm cable is included with this. Can I get a pic of everything that is included? Is this $290 shipped? Thanks.

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
Is this the SMT-6 Advanced or Pro?
I also see that they have wiring diagrams for this at canspeedracing.com they just have to know you are a dealer, iw ould like a wiring diagram before i order one for a 92-95 honda civic.. And does it come with the connector so i can connect it to my laptop? -Josh |
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I have passed the Advanced vs. Pro question on up to our distributor, and I will post his response here once we receive it.
These do include the communication cable for your laptop, and the SMT6s will not be limited in any way. You will have access to all the settable parameters a professional tuner would have. Thanks from Craig! |
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
can i get the installatio instructions into a 92-95 civic? it says on their site that dealers have them.
|
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
Hey Josh,
Our distributor says that the Advanced/Pro relate to only the older Perfect Power products, and that there is only one version of the SMT-6. I will ask about the installation instructions for the 92-95 Civic. Thanks from Craig |
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
i'm more than likely in, but i can't find a wiring diagram for a 00 civic si, i'm assuming it's for obd2 also, b/c i saw other obd2 vehicles on the list. if you could find out about a wiring diagram for an 00 civic si w/stock b16a2, ecu= `p2t

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I checked with the distributor, and they have wiring diagrams for both of these, but will not release them until we actually make the purchase. I really don't agree with that, but am not in a place to argue...
His statement was that it is usually a seven wire hook up for Hondas. Check out the install guide in the links above, there are some pretty detailed instructions in the guide. Thanks from Craig |
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!

Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
i'm not sure if anyone hear has tried it, but according to their website (www.perfectpower.com), this thing is the ----! if it does all it says it does, i want one!
|
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I am still open to doing the group buy, there just wasn't a whole lot of activity on the thread. I had Stealthmode kill the sticky to save room at the top of the category.
These things are the ----! The do everything the add-on turbo guy really needs. Fuel and Ignition together in one package that you can edit with a laptop. And it's cheaper and easier than an SMC and BTM combination. There was another GB a while back, and evidently the organizer has taking forever to get the units out to the folks. I was hoping to hear some good things from those GB participants, and hope that we will soon! So far, we are up to four folks interested, and five units. Once we had the lower threshhold, I'll move forward with the deal. Thanks from Craig! |
Re:SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
Okay Guys, we are up to seven units for folks who have expressed an interest.
Anyone else? |
Re:Almost There! - 7 of 10 - SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I am checking with my tuner to see if he supports it. If everything is good, I'll be down for one. What kind of a time frame are we looking at as far as payment goes? I'd like to wait till I get my tax rebate but if not, I'll put it on the CC.

I don't think that it is critical on how quickly we do this. We'll be happy to pull the trigger whenever you guys want the buy to happen!

Re:Almost There! - 8 of 10 - SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
i can't believe more people aren't interesed in this :-\ they must not have read up on it, b/c people are willing to go out and spend 200+ bucks on just a v-afc, this thing is only 90 dollars more and is 1 million times better ;D
|
Re:Almost There! - 8 of 10 - SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!
I was surprised as well! This thing has the tune-ablilty of a standalone, in a piggyback package. I talked to a guy last night who does a lot of 4G63 stuff, and he says that those guys just love the SMT6.
No worries. We'll make it happen! Come on guys! Craig |
Re:Almost There! - 8 of 10 - SMT-6 Group Buy from Tuner Toys! $290!

Re:We have 10! - SMT-6 Group Buy - Post your desired buy date!
did you get them from tuner toys? craig, i'm not up for a four month wait, so, i'm not going to purchase this unless you have it from the distributer. sorry, but i'm not going to make a payment to you and be waiting on someone else, i hope this isn't the case, because i really do want them. :-[
|
Re:We have 10! - SMT-6 Group Buy - Post your desired buy date!
I guess this group buy is now complete. PM me if there's any problems, Craig. -Steve
|
Re:We have 10! - SMT-6 Group Buy - Post your desired buy date!
No they did not get them from Tuner Toys. The four month wait was a completely different group buy, through a different Perfect Power distributor.
Teg, the group buy is covering our dealership buy-in with Perfect Power. We are passing along the savings to you guys, for helping us with the initial buy-in. You will not find SMT-6s at $290 anywhere. We do not have any units in stock, as we will not become dealers until the buy-in is placed. We can not do the buy-in without the group buy participants. We would never dream of keeping folks on hold for four months, we just don't do business that way. Once everyone in the GB has agreeded upon a purchase date, I will check with PP, and ensure the units are available at the distributor before we accept any payments fromn the GB participants. Once all of the payments are in, the buy will be placed the same or following business day. If something should happen, we will immediately provide refunds. This is a promise we make with all of our sales, to all of our customers. As will all of our sales, we will respond to all questions. You can email us, or call us direct, we will always make ourselvs available for you guys. |
Re:We have 10! - SMT-6 Group Buy - Post your desired buy date!
that GB was held by some guy "Donalson" aka "Mark Thomas"
this has got to be the longest wait for me buying something and paying up front .... ---- 4 mths and still waiting >:( |
