Manifolds for 100 shipped?

I'm thinking about cranking out some manifold for dseries and more than likely bseries later on, just wondering if anybody would be interested.

they'll be made out of 3/8" mild steel for the flanges and mild steel bends/tees for 100 shipped. tig welded.

I've already made a few flanges, trying to get the bolt pattern down, but they'll go for 20 shipped.

Would anybody buy these things at these prices?

also if anyone knows where I can find the dimensions for a t3 flange, i'd appreciate it.

pics will be here by the end of the week.

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

you say you're making flanges?

whats your process for this. it cant really be said on whether or not people would buy them without seeing pictures of your work.

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

right now I'm using a drill press and torch, using a gasket as a template, once I get a solid steel template ready I'll be using a tracing torch on the exhaust holes.

I know pics are needed, I'll have them by the end of this week. Just seeing if the price sounds about right.

And yes, my welds are solid.

the flanges are still rectangular , as in not tapered on the sides like the gasket is.

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

If you bought 25 flanges or so, you could probably get a shop to cut them for you, for not that much money.

i'm doing this for free right now....

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

cool, I'm probably going to do a run of 5-10 or so flanges then make a couple manifolds to see how they sell.

I'd definitly be interested, once you get b series roling in

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

If it's good quality work (well constructed...good welds, good flow, etc.) people will buy them. At $100.00 shipped for a custom manifold, that might be the cheapest ever on this site. As mentioned before you need to post pictures.

Good luck.

I'll buy a sohc d series too !

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

I can't imagine how you can make ---- for money at $100 shipped. Consumables plus parts plus shipping= no money left over.

Doofnoil 08-07-2005 11:11 AM

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

I've got 3 8 foot sheets of 3/8" steel- free, and the tees and elbows, if I can find them for around 30-50 bucks then I'm still making 50 bucks. The flanges alone are straight profit.

SpankedYA! 08-07-2005 11:17 AM

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

You have a computer operated cutting unit to cut the flanges?

Doofnoil 08-07-2005 12:21 PM

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

well, yeah I do but I'm not using it. I'm using a drill press and a torch.

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

id like to see the quality of these manis and the quality of the flanges as well

labatt50 08-07-2005 04:47 PM

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

Well, to be sure of the quality of your manifold, we could find ten people giving 10 buck each, then you send the manifold to Abaz so he can test the quality (if he want). And the 10$ these people would be giving could count as a donation for the 2006 HMT donation.

we're not all communist labatt50...hehe. It sounds like a good idea to me, but I'm just now getting into the fabrication phase.

I still need to find a template to make the T3 flanges and source some piping locally. GIve me a week and we'll see what I can crank out.

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

i'd buy a d-series + t3 flange for $100 shipped any day if the welds are straight.

count me in ;D

Sorry to bust your bubble, but anything welded for a long period of time (as manifolds usually are) does warp. To what extent really depends on several other things. Its highly recommended that flanges are milled according (usually several thousandths does the trick) so that you can have a really good seal with your gasket and optimize air flow for quicker spool times.
At $100 shipped with nice tig welds, youd be like JJ, only youll be the king of manifolds

Doofnoil 08-10-2005 04:21 PM

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

okay, I got one welded up, gonna do the t3 flange tomorrow then grind down the welds and paint.

You were right, it did warp a little bit, less than a 1/16" but I'm gonna have it planed so it will fit flush.

should have pics up friday.

this is HMT bitch. ---- buying materials, just look behind all kinds of diff shops and pick up thier scraps. then it would be nearly 100% profit O0

Re: Manifolds for 100 shipped?

i dont think you'lll last long doing this.

reason being that making $50 on a manifold you have to spend a ton of time hand making parts for is going to burn you out quickly.

theres quite a bit of time into a project like that to only make $50 off of it.

You'd be better off finding a local laser cutter, who will stamp out like 25 flanges for you for fairly cheap, selling them for $150, cutting your time down to nearly nothing, and making more like $75 or more from each one.

even $150 is a pretty good deal. the best ive seen produced in quantity is on eBay for like $149 + shipping or something like that
