GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
I just got word from Ken at Cheapturbo.com...
We need to buy 10 honda D-series Exhaust Head Flanges for building custom turbo manifolds. He will be selling these for $45 apiece which isn't a bad price at all. here's his reply: henry, if you did a groupbuy, you could offer them for $45 each if you get 10 orders. once youve done the initial first 10 and the program is written, you can order them piece by piece. thats no problem. let me know if you have any other questions. thanks ken -Henry |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
I think we need some more info. How thick of Mat., stainless or mild steel, flame cut, lazer cut or CNC mill ? Will this fit ZC motors, D16a6, D16z6 or D16y8 ?
|
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
ok here's some more:
1/2" Mild Steel (for easy welding), CNC machined. should fit all D-motors... depending on what gasket is used to create the program. any other questions? -Henry |

"think we need some more info. How thick of Mat., stainless or mild steel, flame cut, lazer cut or CNC mill ? Will this fit ZC motors, D16a6, D16z6 or D16y8 ? " heh I would love to see a flame cut plate. Beau |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
maybe he ment a plasma cutter, even though its not really an open flame, they do leave odd markings after they cut.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
a plasma cutter is closer to a tig welder than a tourch. A plasma cutter basicly turns the work spot to molten using an electric arc and at the same time uses compressed air to blow the melted steel away, this is why you cant cut too thick of steel with a plasma cutter imagin getting splatter back at your body can you say ouch!!!!

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
I worked at a company that "flame cut" steel plate up to 14 inches thick, Oxy-acetylene torch. I have also run a plasma-cutter that cut 2 inch stainless. There is a process called Water-Jet cutting that can cut plate with a water "beam" and works very good. Its mainly used on alumnim not steel because there are cheaper ways to cut steel. I am right now having a place quote me a price on Laser-cutting some flanges for me. I will post up the price when I get it. We have alot of intelligent people on this board but none of us knows it all. Lets have an open mind about stuff we are not sure of. ;)

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges

We just need a few more people, I know some more people want flanges! -Henry |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
im putting a turbo on a A6 ...will i have to have one of these?.what is it for ?..i can change a tranny do a ZC swap but this turbo stuff is all new. if i need it ill buy it.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
one of these is required if you are building a custom manifold... instead of using an HF manifold..

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
cool thanks, ive got like 4 std manifolds,so im gonna use those.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
Water jet is sweet as hell. My father bought one a year ago and we cut commercial bandsaws and anything else that we want to make. It runs at 55,000PSI and it doesn't actually cut with water but the water propels a material called garnet(sand like stuff). It will cut up to 8" of tungsten steel and there is zero heat involved. This all means no hard edge or heat in the plate. It is the best way to cut by far if you ask me. It is kinda like a giant sandblaster....all the CNC machines use the same table setup and software but they have a different attachment.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
I will buy one for a zc for $45.
It will be the same pattern as a d-series but the exhaust ports are shifted a little bit. |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
when is the cutoff for this? Because I think I want one, but wont have money until friday. Is that cool? Also, I think I know what it is, but I am not completly sure. Basically, is it a piece of metal that mates up to a d series engine? So you would use this if you were to make your own manifold, that way you can customize it to whatever turbo you want? If im wrong then could someone explain it please.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
I think I would be up for one. I would prefer one for a ZC.
My question is: Who do we send the money to? You or the guy making them? I have never done a "group buy" so I am in the dark on this one. Thanks Jon Black |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
Im very interested in a D motor flange.

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
Alright, I've got all of you who've shown interest down for one. and I'm up to a total of nine... I need to sell one more.
I've also noticed that some of you wanted ZC ones, these are all going to be the same, manufactured from whichever gasket I send them. So if someone has a ZC gasket they could donate to the cause, then we'll make em all ZC's if not, it'll be made off of a D16A6. There isn't a cutoff as of yet, after I place the order, I'll stop this thread. So if we sell 10, cool 20, cool, it doesn't matter. As far as payments go - I asked the guy at cheapturbo if he'd deal with accepting payments, etc shipping... and he said that's my thing. So when the time comes to pay, you can shoot me a Money order or a paypal, and I'll have to charge a little more than whatever base-price is to cover shipping and handling, since this ---- will all be coming from me. -Henry |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
DJ, go ahead and get a bunch made, I am sure you will be able to sell them, since nobody else makes them. I am sure I will probably get one later on..
Guys, the a6 and zc ports are pretty close, its not worth it for him to make 2 batchs of these fuckers, just use a d16 one and grind it out a little. Jeff |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges

Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges
yep I need one more... Here's what I've got so far:
RazorHatch - 1 ZexRex - 1 NakShak - 1 Jon Black - 1 Sherman - 1 People from other boards PoormansPorsche - 1 PureCRXTasy - 1 Mista Bone - 1 Myself - 2 Ok.. now.. I'm going to be the one to send the payment to Cheapturbo, so you guys will need to pay me directly. Then, cheapturbo is going to ship them to me in South Florida, and I will then in turn ship them to you. So, I'm gonna charge $15 on top of the cost of the flange for shipping... which is a deal, btw, and I'll probably be eating some money here, but since you guys are helping me out, I'll help you out.. I just shot an email to Ken at cheapturbo, so we'll see what's happening next. -H |
Re:GROUP BUY: D-series exhaust Flanges

I just emailed this guy.. hopefully we can get a much better price than $45 apiece! -Henry I mentioned typical flanges are $25.00 on all of these flanges there is more cutting area an angles than the current flanges I have cut. the turbo inlet flanges won't change - I am having 20 combination standard t-3 flanges/ teo4h chrysler pattern( with the offset flange) every time I make those they sell out real quick - they allow you to start with a teo4h and upgrade to a t3/t4 or whatever. anyway I will keep you posted - for you other turbo guys I cut lots of ... neon sohc 95- current year magnum - 25.00 neon DOHC 95-99 - also fits 2 gen Eclipse non turbo - pt cruiser - breese - avenger etc. - 25.00 my camera makes wide angle shots look warped the flanges are not bent - I can do any custom work but I prefer to do lots of 10,20 or 50. If it is something pretty popular I will cut a lot just to get a better price. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...a/fccfa9b7.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...8/fccfa9b6.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/fccfa9bb.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...a/fccfa9bf.jpg |

Beau a plasma cutter uses a tungsten rod to heat compressed air up to over 60,000 deg. far. at which point the gas turns into plasma. the plasma is blown at the steel which cuts it.. hence "plasma cutter"... so basically it cuts with super heated air. pretty cool stuff.. |
