Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

Buyer fell through on my old motor. Here's the specs.

http://www.newbieforces.com/files/ho...001%20(70).jpg

D16y8 about 4k miles on it now.
block posted
.10 over srp pistons
eagle rods
federal mogul bearings (.015 clearance)
fully rebuilt stock head w/mild port cleanup
arp head studs
y8 intake manifold
ls throttle body
All machine work on this motor is flawless.
All new bearings, gaskets, seals, ect. everything

This was my OWN motor, so I did the break in and all of that as if it were mine. When I moved, I didn't have a way of getting my car to Mn. so I parted it out.
When I took this out it had a small amount of smoke at idle. I was in a rush to get it out of the car and do the moving thing, so I never compression tested. I'm thinking either the rings in one cylinder lined up, or one of them cracked. It also has 3 cracked valve cover bolts. (thanks bamboo :P) Either way, I don't have a car for this motor, so $1000 is good for me. Located in Minnesota

*shakes fist* part it out! part it out! ;) i want the rods

MikeJ-2009 10-05-2004 01:32 AM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

I don't want to part it out because this motor is .10 over perfectly matched to the pistons and crankshaft is just dead on .0015 for the rods and mains, so if I part out one piece, I'm stuck with half of a custom motor. :P

bambooseven 10-05-2004 04:21 AM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

plus if he was going to part it out you wouldn't be getting any of it anyway.

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

steve, put it in the EG, just long enough to bow up yo're cute little auto tranny.

Cray91 10-05-2004 06:05 AM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

No tranny with this I am assuming. I just ask because I was gonna build a D up and would need a trans too, but I can find one elsewhere I suppose.

MikeJ-2009 10-05-2004 01:19 PM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

Nope, the tranny I was using I got from Julio for free. It had a somewhat grind going into third, and when I took it out I felt it was only right that I pass the tranny along, so I gave it to Murdoc. :D

Good price

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

where's 97706?

My wife has a pretty good shipping discount through her work, so I'd say $100 shipped anywhere and you can get it.

97006=Oregon :P

1000 and it smokes...BOO :thumbs down:....does that include installation for MN buyers :P

MikeJ-2009 10-06-2004 06:14 PM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

$1000 won't get you the rods, pistons and the machine work that this thing has on any other motor. Now you can get everything all you "I'm gonna build a D series" people need for $1000.
When you think of rods, pistons, posts, machine work, new oil pump, water pump, t- belt, gaskets, seals, distributor, powdercoated valve cover, bearings, rings, cost of a motor in the first place, blah blah, you just can't do it.
Now you buy this, take it all apart, inspect everything, possibly change the rings, put it all back together, and technically, YOU did build it. You'll find it's alot easier than putting all of this together in the long run.
I can always take it all apart for you, give it to you in pieces, and then you can do it the traditional way. But you still can't get what this has for $1000. :-*

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

stealth: stock oil pump?

heard the y motors are weakass in the oil pump dept, and like to spin rod bearings.

Dr.Boost 10-06-2004 08:18 PM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

The oil pump is some sort of Nascar pump made for high rpm for long durations. :P

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

I've been scared of the oil pumps on these things for a while, thats why I went with a little looser bearing clearance on it.
This was used with a t3 48/60 afc, 450's, custom coach, blah blah.
13.84 @10psi (couldn't get homedepot couplers to hold more)
New couplers, untuned on afc at 16.5 psi 235whp/222tq.

How bad was it smokin at idle

Dr.Boost 10-06-2004 08:51 PM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

From what I seen, it wasn't smoking bad at all. I think Steve is just being a bit paranoid about it because he doesn't want to rip anybody off by selling it as a "perfect" motor when it "might" have a problem. From what I seen it could have been the turbo smoking , or maybe even running rich from the gay ass fuel management he was using(AFC). :-\

steve will you be around saturday?

i can come pick it up then

does it come with the wiring harness and ----

MikeJ-2009 10-06-2004 11:02 PM

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

Dr Boost was there. It only smoked a little while sitting idle. When driving it didn't smoke at all. It COULD have been the turbo, but I'm not one to bank on that to tell you it's perfect. I'd rather say "this or this" COULD be wrong and sleep well at night.

The motor doesn't have a wiring harness, but it has all sensors, intake manifold/throttle body/, valve cover, obd0 distributor, wires. Oil pan is tapped. Uh, what more is there?

Re:Fully built D16y8 with 4k miles

what rings did you use in it?? If you used low tension rings (which are meant for boost) it would smoke at an idle which is perfectly fine

I used the je rings that was listed on the srp piston site as the turbo pistons indicate. The smoking didn't occur for the first 3k miles, so I doubt it was normal, I just don't know what it was.

pm'd my number.

Russ, the new build is slowly getting there. We're gonna do an ls/vtec bored out to 2.0liter (fully built), gsr head, going with ball bearing turbo this time for sure. 16-17 psi :-\
I'll put a seatbelt in there for you. :D (some guys didn't even get a seat)(donald125) 8)

I pm'd you about the parts

If it's any consolation to you, (donald125) there was only one bolt holding my seat in... and that one was loose!

Thanks Steve!
