Regarding the CP Piston / Eagle Rod combo, I just found out I can replace the one piston. So it is your choice, you can have them as they are for $500 -- or -- I'll provide one NEW CP piston (the other three pistons are like new, only 2000 mi , they even have nice shiny skirts still) AND BRAND NEW RINGS so these rods and pistons are READY TO GO in your engine with absolutely no worries. Enhanced EEPROM Burner - USB (you don't need an ac adapter) and parallel cables included. I've burned many a chip using my laptop while sitting in the car where I was testing. This burner is handy. It is missing a LED (pertaining to 2732 chips), so I dropped the price. If you need to burn that particular type of chip I can't guarantee it works since I've never tired. All I use it for is Electronically-Eraseable 29-series chips and it worked great for them.

1 set - CP Forged pistons - D16Y8 .020 over / 9:1 - Mounted on ARP H-beam forged rods - 3/8" ARP bolts. Oem bearings still installed. ~2000 mi on the set before I cracked a sleeve. The rods are perfect. The pistons are all perfect except for the number one which got a slight scrape in the skirt from the crack in the sleeve. Since it is the skirt, it could almost certainly be buffed out and used, but I'll leave that up to you. Pictures are below so you can decide. Even if you decide to replace the piston, this is a deal!

I have a D16Y8 bare block that looks like this at the bottom of two cylinders due to bent rods hitting. Otherwise in great shape. ~120,000 mi Good for sleeving. Make offer - I'll ship it directly to Benson or whomever as a core if you like...

^ I think that was your mistake right there, that and tuning.

 

Some people swear by the AFC hack. It is simple to use, and if you take timing precautions, reasonably reliable. Plus it looks really cool. I agree, it isn't as good as chipping when the latter is done properly. But it isn't nearly as difficult to learn either. If you don't do things just right, you can blow your engine up with either.

Actually, I don't think the problem was with the tune as much as the engine. I believe it was the fuel system (regulator maybe?) or electrical system (dizzy?). I was having issues when I was still stock. But I convinced myself they were in my head. I never took the time to properly diagnose, and now I'm a cautionary tale.
