I just bought an Enco 9X20 benchtop lathe, and a small Seig X2 (chinese) mill. I imagine I need quite a lot of ----. I have a local friend who works for a contractor making jet engines for the military, so I have access to a lot of cool stuff, but you can never have enough tooling, right?

I especially need:

- R8 collets
- smaller rotary/dividing head, something in the 8-10" range
- will probably just settle for a double handful of commonplace but handy goodies (end mills, etc) dumped into a shoebox.

I'm going to pick up a smaller/meduim sized lathe really soon, you cant go wrong with those. It will pay for its self 100 times over.

there is a good chunk of custom endmills and sidecutters that they make in-house, plus mosst (moost, i dont remember which) coating (stronger, but not as durable as titanium in high-heat) on many of the bits. they use them for a certain amount of time, then chuck em in the trash regardless of wear, or even faster if they DO manage to wear/break part of one. taps out the wazoo, end mills, plus starter bits for drills are probably the top 3 things they do that with. i also have a small collection of carbide inserts (think brake lathe, only 5x as big) designed to be used in those big 4 and 5 toothed mill heads. if you need anything that you think youll want, or know what you need a replacement for, i can probably get it for you. tool and die = biggest consumer of maching bits in the world. somewhat irrelevent to the thread, but they were put on the map when they redesigned westinghouse's nuclear grid strap running production stamp order, and saved over 40% on material cost by increased production on a 3" narrower strip of steel, with less waste, than originally blueprinted. one of the many full time dies they run, amongst battery tops and GE lightbulb/medicinal vial endcaps. kinda good to know i guess, if you can blueprint or design it on CNC they can make it, no questions asked.
