Default help understanding vtec...and why mines broke?

well ive been messing with this H22 for a little bit now trying to figure out why the vtec doesnt work and i havnt came up with anything... i found a couple videos on youtube and places but none of them tell much more than what is fairly self explanitory. what it doesnt tell is what happens between the solenoid and the rocker arms. is there some kind of oring that i could have cut putting it back together or something? ive never had much dealings with a vtec head other than puting in cams (wow...) but thats it.

what had happened was... i broke a retainer 28 miles after i got the car tuned... droped a valve and got lucky not riping up the insides. pulled the head took it to the machine shop got a new guide put in, a new valve and some new springs and retainers. i was in business then buddy. got home slaped it back together got her runnin and i was stoked. dumped some gas in it and took off to the shop. i get there check over everything with it on the pit. no leaks so it was time for some rippers! headed down the highway did a easy 3rd gear pull and vtec came in but kicked back out for like 1/4 sec and came back. i thought whatever just a air pocket in the oil... i worked for prob the next 15 times. then it slowly faded out and now theres nothing. ive checked the solenoid and switch and its good. laptop says the computers comanding vtec... idk what else to check ive searched and searched and never found this problem. someone from the uppers deffinately needs to chime in on this one...im tired of rockin the slow *** hatch crapper it needs life again...

dirty oil Take off the vtec solenoid and see if the little metal screen is clogged.

X2. Whenever I first got my car from my buddy he said the vtec didn't work then whenever my engine builder took everything apart he called me and told me about my vtec being clogged.

If its not throwing the spool code (which I would check the wiring\ plug)...

Pull the solenoid off... Its plugged i bet you

wtf is that supposed to mean.

I've checked the screen. actually swaped the solenoid out for a know n good one. checked that the wire does supply voltage at engagement point. all that good stuff... in the center cam bearing between the two cams there is a little piece that's got an o ring on it that slides straight down into the head wtfs that?

Have you checked to see if you get voltage to the solenoid?

no its actually sadly running s200... I've had problems with my crx running crome with it throwing crazy nonlisted codes like a 56 or something of course the crx just has an LS in it to.

is there anything I could have done when I put the rocker arms in to keep it from going in?

does anyone know what im talking about with that little doo dabber in the center cam bearing between the cams? ill try to get a pic when I go home tomorrow off a spare head I have.
