so here is the deal, ill try not to leave out any details:

B18B1 bottom end
PR3 pistons
stock rods, maybe ARP bolts
P72 head
"CTR cams"
compression is ~260psi across


first off: I DIDNT BUILD THE MOTOR... it was in the car when purchased... and i would have to say that the quality of the car is ----. the motor swap was half assed... but im pretty sure someone else built the motor, and the old owner of the car swapped the motor in with his dumbass friends. motor has a Golden Eagle LSVTEC swap kit (oil line, adapter, headstuds, etc)...

oh and its been like this, with pretty much zero change, for the last 4-5months!

i have done a valve adjustment, put new tranny fluid in, swapped slave cylinder (was bad, maybe more?), ran OBD1 chipped ECU, OEM OBD2A JDM ITR ECU... same symptoms all the way across.


PROBLEM:
so at idle it sounds like its got a little knock. you rev it up it doesnt get any louder like a rod usually does. you drive it, seems all normal. you maybe can hear/feel this mysterious "knock". so you go to smash on it, get on the freeway, whatever. you get up to like 6500-7000rpms and it seems like it bogs, no more power...so? you bang a gear. GRIND!!!....umm. so we changed the tranny fluid, tranny shifted smoother... but will still do it. still a bog/no power... vibration? at 6.5k rpms. oh yeah also changed the clutch slave cylinder in there somewhere...
so im driving it. i hold RPMs steady going up very slowly all is going good. then i get to 6500ish rpms and all of a sudden you got MAD VIBRATION in the gas pedal, shifter, etc and so i put in the clutch, makes more noise... i try it with leaving it in gear and coast... still the same symptoms... so its not tranny grinding problem, but getting the same kind of noise from the engine?!?!


ok i have a scattered/multi-tasking mind, ADD, etc... hope i got all that and its understandable lol....


so whats your thoughts?... really thinking its something like a fucked up wrist pin or something??

 

for the knock pull off injector pigtails one at a time and see if it goes away when the load is off. As for the rest I think your on your own

 

well ---- i didnt think about that. ill give that a try... but im thinking that they are related... and the other one is the more pressing issue atm...

 

Hold it off the rev limiter untill it blows up and then figure what was wronge with it

 

told him that over a dozen times, he doesnt like it when i say that ---- seriously though...i have said it...


it stays in VTEC...and its been like this for months.... sure it has oil pressure lol. i thought clutch related failures, but it does it regardless of the clutch bing pushed in or not and only above 6500


also, it does it while PARKED... so you are sitting still just reving it up to the moon, it will still make the same noise. just not as loud... referring to the noise at 6500ish

 

for the vibration: Is your whole car shaking, or is it just the driveline parts? If its ur whole car check ur motor mounts and the bolts. I had a nasty vibration in my prelude and it turned out that the rear mount was being held in by 1 bolt, and it was backing its way out.

A fucked up clutch could cause the knocking sound like someone else said....happened to my h23. Drop the tranny and find out.

I would go over EVERYTHING and make sure ***** bolted in and hooked up right. Do it one thing at a time since ur ADD.

My bet is ur car was done soo half-assed that they probably didn't bolt ---- down, torque anything, and forgot ---- along the way....

higher RPMs is where balanced ---- starts to show its true form....the pressure plate could not be torqued or bolted all the way down or bolted unevenly or something along those lines..

i had the same issue. I kept hearing a knock around certain rpms. I checked EVERYTHING. couldn't find ---- wrogn witht he motor.

Ended up being the driver side tq mount not fully bolted down.

Ive had friends cars where they thought there ---- was about to blow, and it ended up being something loose or their injectors. usually simple fixes. Id check all the stupid easy ---- first and go from there. and check your injectors.

 

pull the pan off and wiggle the rods. if its knock, it will be pretty obvious
