Default BATTERY DRAINING $5

I just have a quick question on something i have not yet had to deal with. My 89 crx battery keeps dying and i dont know what is causing it. I have hear of doing a voltage drop test before but i have no idea where to start, because there is alot of wires. Doi need to just start testing every wire in the car, or has anybody else had this problem with their crx. Any help is really appreciated first person to come up with the solution on how to fix it will get $5 paypaled to them as soon as it is fixed.

Voltmeter on battery terminals. Key off. start pulling fuses one by one (replace them after you pull one :1) and watch the meter. When the voltage jumps up, that the circuit your drop is on.

Either that or you have shitty grounds. The engine block is the only true ground, everything else is bs. Main ground>>>engine block. You would be amazed how many electrical problems can be solved with ground.

^^ is the best way. I always was told to pull the pos terminal and run the multi-meter in line from the battery and terminal to test Amp draw while you pull fuses to see which fuse drops the Amp draw. Seems like either would work.

Did you test to see if your battery or alternator is taking a ---- first?

Stop useing your 12 volt, plug in, self pumping, ----- simulating masturbator with the key on Acc. Just crank the car up for 10 mins.

Both ways work. Simply a matter of preference.

+1 on the alternator. Start the car, with it idling you should have at least 13.5V at the battery terminals.

those two tests test two different things. the first one is measuring voltage drop across all the different circuits when you have them across both terminals. when you pull particular fuses this will tell you if you have an unwanted amount of resistance in one circuit.

the second is a parasitic load test, where you run an amp meter in line between the postive cables and the positive terminal on the battery. when you have it hooked up it will tell you exactly how many amps is being drawn from the battery when the car is off. as you pull fuses it should drop and tell you how much each circuit is drawing. thats when you find out if something is staying on or shorted somewhere.

Either way will work to find the problem. Theres an awful good chance he has a ground problem too.

How old is the battery, could just be a dead cell. If that battery is over 1.5 years old, and is a cheap battery it could just be dieing. Sears does free load test, if its the battery it will just die. I should know I work for sears doing that a long time ago.

no its a brand new battery i did a load test on it and its fine. i already did some searching and it looks like its going to be something on the stop lamp circuit. so it shoud be pretty easy to find

did u check ur alternaor? do urself a favor and check it.


Also check ur ELD fuse. It was blown on my last civic and the battery would die every week or so until i checked my fuses and found it blown.Replaced it and never had the problem again
