i am rebuilding a z6 back to stock. i got the pistons/rods and new rings in, all new bearings. no machine work except for me doing a light hone to bring back the crosshatch.

when i torqued down the # 2, 3, and 4 rod caps the crank would still spin easily (considering the friction of the pistons), but when i torqued down the #1 rod cap the crank will barely spin over. i put them at 23 ft/lbs. i put the torque wrench on the crank and it takes 50-55 ft/lbs to spin

i reset the rod bearing on that cylinder, but still. if i leave it at about 15-18 ft/lbs it still spins easily (considering the friction of the pistons)

ANY IDEAS? Trying to get this thing out so i can start my build

motor ran before but rebuilding for a friend cuz it had 230k miles

 

are the bearings properly sized or did you just go buy some that "will fit"? Is everything lubricated?

 

did you check the bearing clerance?

 

make sure the caps are properly on....numbers on the side of the rods line up with each other, you might have a rod cap fliped

 

havnt checked any bearing clearance. everything is lubed. caps are right. i'll plastigauge it and measure the bearings with a micrometer. thanks.

 

The how the hell did you decide on which bearing to get?

 

acl or king standard bearings.....

 

i was lucky and got away with just getting std acl bearings but i plasti gauged everything

 

most of the people i have talked to use acl or whatever std bearings (even honda shops)...obviously the correct numbered honda bearings are better but i just plastigauged my std king bearings and it seems good to go
