oil pressure goes nutz when vtec kicks and no boost
ls/vtec in a 92 civic hb vx, chipped p28. Everything runs good untill vtec supposed to go. It almost feels like it loses power and the oil pressure gauge goes nuts. I cant build any boost ( it did the first couple of pulls) but didnt notice the vtec kicking on, and the turbo is making kind of a weird wwhhooooo sound. Not smoking that I can notice. Does it sound like the turbo is shot and losing oil pressure which is not letting the vtec see a solid oil pressure or do you think it is two seperate problems.
well first check for boost leaks. Then check the exhaust side for leaks and wastegate closure. After that i'd check the vtec solenoid screen maybe? I'd guess that if it's dirty that that could cause your oil pressure to get fucked.
I just thought of one...did you replace the little rubber o-ring gasket that goes in between the head and the cam caps? If you lost this seal when reassembling everything, all your oil pressure when you hit vtec activation will spray out of that cam cap instead of traveling through the oil galleys to the rocker arms.
