Default Painted my stock wheels this past week *pics*

Well I was getting bored with my stock 16's that the car came with.

I like the design, but figured they could use a change, so being my car is red, I decided it would look pretty mean if I painted them black. This is what they looked like before (not my car but you get the idea)

I went into this wanting to do a quality job, not just some hack. So I started by going on on HT and saw how a few of them painted their wheels. One guy recommeneded using aircraft carrier remover to remove the stock finish. This was probably my biggest mistake. That stuff is insane and it took me probably two hours of me and my friend scraping and sanding the wheels to get all of the stock finish off. Even then, probably only 98% of it was off, there were a few spots I couldn't get. So on went three coats of primer (even did the inside of the wheel). That took about two days. Then three coats of black gloss paint (not that stupid greyish black "wheelpaint" you get from autozone, I hate that ----). That took another two days to apply and dry, ect. Then last night and today I threw on two coats of clear. Also did the centercaps seperately. Left the tires on throughout this whole process. All in all, i'd say it looks pretty ------- good for a first time. Don't know if I regret using that aircraft remover ---- because I know it was done right now and won't chip for a good long time if it eve ndoes end up chipping. For about $50 in materials, I'm pretty happy. Pics don't really do them justice, but let me know what you guys think. Just washed them.

Haha, I just started doing this to my LS wheels. I'm using some Duplicolor wheel paint though.

Cardboard works wonders for masking the tires off. Looks pretty good though.

Just wait till they take off the old tires and mount the new ones and then see your painted wheels. There'll be a post "Repainted my stock painted wheels this past week *pics*". I'm pretty sure on. I like the Duplicolor wheel paint. I've used it a couple of times and I feel it holds on better then normal spray paint and just goes on easier. I've used the bronze, white and the gunmetal.
