pissed at machine shop o-ringing not done, what to do
i called the machine shop today to go pick up my motor and the receptionist told me its done as she did the same last week so i go up there to pick it up(30 miles) and the guy that works at the shop tells me oh its not done yet, i told her that when she asked me so im ------- pissed at this point after waiting 3 months still waiting for o-ringing to get done. bore, hone, deck, micropolish, and balancing are done. so i ask to see my motor to check progress and the ---- looks good but then i see steel wire laying next to my motor i said wait a min i know your not gonna put ss wire on my aluminum block then he goes well i do it on all the v8's im at this point wanting to wack the fool in the head with a crowbar. HAS ANYONE HERE EVER HEARD OF O-RING THE BLOCK ON A HONDA WITH SS WIRE? i thought the whole point was to get the wire to crush and seal ss won't do so on an aluminum block. please tell me its ok....
i searched HT and then phoned 2 reputable machine shops that build primarily honda engine and the verdict is.........do not! use steel wire unless you are using an annealed copper hg doing so could comprimise sealing properties. do use copper wire when using any steel hg i.e. oem hg or mls aftermarket gasket. in my case i have the hks mls gasket so i need to use copper wire which i'ver already installed yesterday. i picked up the stuff from the machine shop and installed the wire(they cut the channel for the wire) everything looks good. block is sexy as hell bored .20,o-ringed,decked,honed,micro polished crank and balanced rotating assembly. i just gapped the rings last night and i just have to check clearances and paint the block. i really wish the digi cam was working so i could get pics to post up
